Job Title: Corporate Tax Director

Reports To: Sr. Director Finance, Treasury & Tax

What we are Seeking:

We are looking for an experienced and highly self -motivated professional specialized in multiple areas of corporate taxes to add to the team.

Tax Policies and Strategies:

  • The Tax Director is responsible for defining tax policies, developing tax strategies and implementing tax processes and procedures.
  • This position is an individual contributor role who will work with 3rd party service providers to design the optimum corporate tax structure most suitable for the Company's long-range business model and plan that would provide the long-term tax benefit for the Corporation which will include in person collaboration with auditors and others.
  • The Tax Director also works with Legal and Business Dev to explore, identify, apply and/or implement various tax benefits and tax saving initiatives with various in person meetings and connection points.
Corporate Income tax provision, accounting, reporting and compliance:
  • The Director of Taxis responsible for working with 3rd party service provider to develop tax provision model for quarterly income tax reporting and tax footnote disclosures in the 10-Q and 10-K.
  • This position is responsible for preparing journal entries to record various tax related accounting items.
  • Additionally, this position is responsible for tax compliance by driving the timely completion and filing of Federal, CA and multiple state tax returns.
  • The Tax Director should have deep understanding of DTA, DTL, UTP, Sec 162 (M), Sec 174 Capitalization and R&D credit.
Other areas of tax management of the company:
  • The Tax Director's responsibilities also include other areas of tax management outside of corporate income tax.
  • These include payroll withholding taxes at the Federal and multiple states levels; CA sales and use tax monitoring and reporting; CA Sales Tax Exemption reporting and compliance, property taxes filing and appeal; Delaware franchise tax reporting.
  • Additionally, the Tax Director is responsible for reviewing and providing guidance to our foreign entity on various tax matters such as consumption tax, business local tax and Japan corporate tax, etc.
Required Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Finance, Accounting or related field which includes 12 + years of professional experience in industry
  • Certified Tax Professional is highly desired.
  • Business, communication, and leadership skills are vital. Ability to work with cross functional teams to implement new processes / procedures in order to support changes in tax regulations.
  • Ideal candidate should have at least 10 years of experience in all the areas of tax listed above.
  • Experience with tax provision software and knowledge of Tax Accounting process within SAP platforms is strong plus
  • Prior experience with multi-jurisdiction tax compliance is required.
  • Ability to work multi-task and meet stringent deadlines.


Position Required to work onsite at QuantumScape San Jose, CA offices

Compensation & Benefits: Salary range for this role is between $148,500 to $207,900, a final salary will be determined by the candidate's experience and educational background. QuantumScape also offers an annual bonus and a generous RSU/Equity package as part of its compensation plan. In addition, we do offer a tremendous benefits plan including employee paid health care, Employee Stock Purchase Plan (ESPP), and other exciting perks.
