Job Summary: Plans, implements and assesses a program of instruction that adheres to the district's mission, philosophy and objectives. Flint Community Schools, located in Flint, Michigan, is an urban public school system with about 6,900 students and 1,200 employees. With 15 campuses throughout the City of Flint, the district has a long and rich tradition of community education. Flint Community Schools provide a range of academic, extended services and extracurricular activities at the elementary and secondary levels to meet the needs of our students and their families. Essential Functions: Essential Functions: Conducts and provides written evaluations to suspected students with disabilities or students enrolled in special education in the areas of speech, voice, language and oral motor skills. Provides direct one-on-one and group speech and language services to eligible students with disabilities. Provides consultation to staff and parents/guardians regarding speech and language services, including use of augmentative communication systems and devices related to the individual needs of students. Develops and writes annual goals and short-term instructional objectives for students assigned to the caseload. Attends and participates in Multidisciplinary Evaluation Team (MET) and Individualized Education Program Team (IEPT) meetings as requested. Compiles and maintains records, written reports and other documentation for students assigned to the caseload. Works as a team member with instructional and ancillary staff to refer eligible students for speech and language services. Works as a team member with instructional staff and parents/guardians to refer eligible students to outside agencies and other community resources. Assumes primary responsibility for requisitioning and maintaining equipment and supplies for speech and language services. Provides service information and training staff for the integration of language development into daily classroom instruction. Drives to and from assigned buildings within the district. To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily. Qualifications: Education: Master's degree required in speech and language pathology, or a valid Michigan Teacher's Certificate with full approval in Speech & Language Impairment (SB) required. Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC) preferred but not required. Experience: Experience with students with severe handicaps and augmentative communication systems and devices preferred. Skills: Ability to work with individuals and groups. Ability to communicate oral and written. Demonstrated initiative and understanding in working with students, staff and parents/guardians. Demonstrated mental/physical ability and stamina for meeting the requirements of the position. Ability to make decisions in accordance with Board policies and procedures with minimum supervision. Other: Licensed in Speech-Language Pathology by the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs -- Board of Speech-Language Pathology. Residence within a 60-mile radius of the borders of the district is required; residence within the City of Flint is preferred. Newly hired employees
