The overall responsibilities of an IT Generalist Include:

  • Install, configure, and maintain hardware and software systems, including servers, workstations, printers, and network devices
  • Perform routine maintenance tasks, such as system updates, patches, and backups, to ensure the stability and security of our IT environment.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve hardware, software, and network issues, either independently or by collaborating with the appropriate teams or vendors.
  • Provide technical support and guidance to end users, both in person and remotely, ensuring timely resolution of their IT-related inquiries and problems.
  • Manage user accounts, permissions, and access rights across various systems and applications.
  • Assist in the evaluation, selection, and implementation of new technologies and software solutions to improve efficiency and productivity.
  • Develop and maintain documentation, including user manuals, standard operating procedures, and knowledge base articles.
  • Conduct training sessions to educate users on IT best practices and promote proper use of technology resources.
  • Stay up to date with emerging technologies and industry trends, and make recommendations for their integration into our IT infrastructure.
  • Ability to diagnose and resolve hardware and software issues and provide technical support to end users.
  • Must adhere to all Metromont and OSHA safety rules and regulations.
  • Housekeeping as necessary to maintain work area, tools, and equipment in a clean and orderly manner.

EDUCATION AND TECHNOLOGY:

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field (or equivalent work experience)
  • Proven experience as an IT Generalist or similar role, with a broad understanding of IT systems, hardware, software, and networks
  • Strong knowledge of Windows and macOS operating systems, as well as Microsoft Office Suite and other common software applications
  • Familiarity with networking concepts and protocols, such as TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, and VPN
  • Experience with Active Directory, Group Policy, and user management in a Windows environment
  • Certifications such as CompTIA A+, Network+, or Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate (MCSA) preferred
  • Experience with virtualization technologies, such as VMware or Hyper-V preferred
  • Familiarity with cloud computing platforms, such as Microsoft Azure or Amazon Web Services (AWS) preferred
  • Knowledge of IT security best practices and experience implementing security measures preferred
