Radiation Therapist

Under the direction of the Clinical Supervisor, apply high quality radiation treatments to the patient in accordance with the prescription and instructions of the Radiation Oncologist.
What You'll Be Doing
- Checks prescriptions, diagnoses, electronic charts and patient identifications.
- Explains procedures to patient and advises patient regarding reactions to treatment.
- Prepares room and equipment, including immobilization devices and radiation accessories, for each patient according to prescription.
- Transfers patients safely to treatment couch, giving special care to catheters, IV's, etc.
- Performs all imaging as prescribed and documents according to office policy. Follows all mandated supervision requirements.
- Delivers accurately the prescribed planned course of radiation therapy under the general supervision of the Radiation Oncologist and Radiation Administrator.
- Maintains visual and audio communication with patient receiving treatment at all times.
- Accurately and neatly maintains patient markings and all documentation regarding setup requirements.
- Observes patient for any unusual reactions or symptoms requiring medical intervention and reports these issues to nursing and/or the radiation oncologist.
- Observes radiation safety guidelines at all times for patient and personnel. Always follow ALARA principles.
- Prepares immobilization devices and performs simulations and treatment planning scans as requested by the radiation oncologist. Completes all documentation associated with these procedures.
- Assists in dosimetry as needed, importing treatment planning scans, contouring, and double checking of monitor unit calculations.
- Attends chart rounds as rotation requires.
- Performs all daily warm-up and quality assurance procedures. Reports any results outside of required ranges.
- Secures and maintains supplies.
- Reports any faults reported on the linear accelerator to Varian and radiation oncologist/radiation administer. Maintain log of all reported issues.
- Ensures the safe handling, storage and disposal of hazardous materials.
- Submits proper documents to billing to ensure timely billing. Accurately reviews summary of patient's charges.
- Responsible for ensuring the safety of the patient throughout the course of the procedure.
- Participates and collaborates in accreditations and special projects of SRO as required.
- May be asked to participate in development of SRO polices and procedures.
- Maintains compliance with all governmental and regulatory requirements.
- Responsible for completing, in a timely manner, all mandated training and in-services, including but not limited to annual OSHA training and PPD placements.
- Maintains licensure and completes all continuing education requirements.
- Maintains a high level of patient confidentiality.
- Performs all other duties as assigned.
What We Expect from You
- Graduate from an accredited Radiologic Therapy Technology program with a current or eligible certificate of registry from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT)
Reasoning Ability
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Computer Skills
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have thorough knowledge in computer information systems.

Work Environment
This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

Travel
