School Based Speech Language Pathologist

The School Based Speech Language Pathologist is an integral member of the interdisciplinary team whose focus is on the development and promotion of communication and language skills within the school environment. The school is located at Leg Up Farm and provides services to individuals ages 5 through 22 with an Autism or Social-Emotional Diagnosis. The Speech Language Pathologist customizes unique individual and group interventions that address remediation of communication disorders that include the areas of articulation, voice, auditory processing, fluency, language processing, verbal expression, problem solving, cognition, memory, and executive functioning. They identify the need for augmentative communication and environmental adaptations for the promotion of functional communication and cognitive functioning. Salary is based on the regular school year, with additional paid days for Extended School Year days worked.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
• When provided with a Permission to Evaluate from the school the School Based Speech Language Pathologist evaluates students with standardized testing materials, client report, parental/guardian report, teacher report, and clinical observations to determine current level of function, areas of dysfunction, and developmental age appropriateness.
• Provide suggested goals for the IEP, one week prior to the due date of the IEP, to the appropriate staff within the school setting.
• Attend IEP meetings.
• Provide both in-person and virtual services.
• Customize individualized and group and therapeutic sessions to address the objectives on the student's IEP.
• Complete Reevaluation Reports as indicated by the schools.
• Complete a progress report for each student once a quarter.
• Check-in and Check-out School-based related service students.
• Complete billing logs for schools as determined by Leg Up Farm Policies.
• Track and document client progression towards established goals.
• Communicate client progression with parent/guardian, interdisciplinary team, and compliance with Leg Up Farm policies.
• Ensure that sessions start and end on time.
• Maintains neat and orderly work areas in clinical and office spaces.
• Reports incidents and completes Leg Up Farm documentation to supervisor.
• Reports any incidents of mandated reporting to appropriate channels.
• Reports supply needs to Rehabilitation Services Manager.
• Follows the guidelines of universal precautions and good work ergonomics.
• Oversee clinical interns in Speech Language Pathology.
• Demonstrate sensitivity to cross cultural issues.
DOCUMENTATION
• Completion of clear and thorough Speech Language Pathology evaluations when provided with a Permission to Evaluate form from the schools.
• Completion of Suggested IEP goals/objectives form is due to the appropriate individual within the school setting based upon each individual's school's guidelines.
• Completion of the Reevaluation Report upon notification from the school.
• Report cards are due once a quarter.
• Completion of clear and thorough daily session notes as per school guidelines.
• Completion of Extended School Year requests per each individual school's guidelines.
Requirements
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
Required:
- Master's or Higher in Speech-Language Pathology from an accredited academic institution
- PA State License as a Speech Language Pathologist
- Certificate of Clinical Competency (CCC) from ASHA-)-Strong CFY candidates will be considered
- Completion of New Staff Orientation Trainings
- Mandated Reporting and Child Abuse Training
- First Aid & CPR/AED Certification
- Safe Crisis Management Certification
- Current State Child Abuse History Clearance
- Current State Police Record Check
- Current Federal Criminal History Background Check (FBI Fingerprinting)
- Compliance with Drug Testing & Satisfactory Drug Testing Results
- Knowledge of scope of practice of a PA State Licensed Speech Language Pathologist
- Knowledge of best practices for Speech Language Pathologists per ASHA
- Knowledge of Leg Up Farm Therapy Program policies and procedures and the ability to ensure proper implementation
- Intermediate Computer Literacy Skills including word processing, spreadsheets, and emails
- Basic use of Sign Language and basic communication strategies
- Thorough assessment skills of child development
- Implementation of sensory-based strategies for functional outcomes
- Knowledge of Augmentative Communication devices/systems
- Behavioral modification strategies for varied pediatric population
- Highly detail-oriented, able to work independently, multi-task, enjoy interfacing with other staff at all levels
- Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from clients, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and written
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality of protected health information (PHI) and proprietary business practices

- 2 Years of pediatric based therapy (school-based setting preferred)

WORKING CONDITIONS
This position requires work to be performed in a variety of settings located on the campus including the outside of the physical building. The employee may be exposed to hot or cold temperatures depending on the weather and time of the year. They may be exposed to various temperatures of water outside in the Koi pond and inside in the therapy pool. This position is subject to a number of inherent risks associated with equine activities. There is a potential exposure to dander of animals.
This position requires the ability to sit, crawl, stand, walk, run, climb steps, bend, and lift 20 pounds. At times there may be the need to perform passive restraints. This position requires the ability to verbally communicate, hear, and type. Occasional loud noises from clients, animals, and equipment.
This position is subject to a number of inherent risks associated with pediatric services which is not limited to bites, kicks, scratches, and hits.
