Acute Pain Service Nurse Practitioner

The Acute Pain Service Nurse Practitioner plays a crucial role in the management of an inpatient acute pain service at a Level 1 Trauma Center. Daily responsibilities include performing inpatient consultations, coordinating interdisciplinary services and providers, and contributing to the education of residents, students, and nurses. This position requires specialization in customized individual analgesic regimens, utilization of multimodal analgesics, regional anesthesia, Ketamine and Lidocaine infusions, and implantable pain control devices in complex patients with multiple co-morbidities, substance abuse histories, psychiatric disorders, and chronic pain conditions.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manage the inpatient acute pain service on a daily basis
  • Perform inpatient consultations and coordinate interdisciplinary services and providers
  • Contribute to the education of residents, students, and nurses
  • Specialize in customized individual analgesic regimens and utilize various pain management techniques
  • Conduct patient assessments, collect clinical data, and perform diagnostic procedures
  • Maintain accurate patient medical reports and coding for billing
  • Act as a mentor to new staff and physician assistant students

Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree from an accredited Nurse Practitioner program
  • Licensure as a Nurse Practitioner
  • ACLS and BCLS certifications
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills

Physical Demands:

  • Standing, walking, physical lifting and carrying, and repetitive motions are frequently required
