Job Summary: The pipeline assets constructed by our internal and external crews are the assets that fuel our Company’s success and provide millions of customers safe and reliable gas service. The Construction Inspector position for Southern Company Gas is instrumental to ensuring our pipeline assets are constructed in a safe, quality, compliant, and efficient manner. Functional Expertise: Oversees construction of underground gas utility infrastructure for residential, commercial, and industrial properties to ensure they are installed per the design. Inspects Construction Activities (safety, compliance, quality, environmental, locates and restoration) to ensure quality & safety standards are met & documented. Reviews and submits work orders, progress reports, field changes, as-built records to ensure compliance and company standards and policies. Provides timely project updates & inspector reports to applicable stakeholders (i.e. Engineering, Construction Operations, Operations, Sales, Contractors). Will be assigned to specific project or projects Business Acumen: Serves as technical support for Company Specifications (OPM), Operator Qualifications (OQ) and Construction Quality Assurance/Control (CQA) and makes corrective actions as needed. Looks beyond day-to-day activities to any potential obstacles that need to be addressed and communicates accordingly. Works with Construction Supervisor to ensure that all inspection & project documentation is properly archived as part of the project closeout. Engagement: Maintains customer satisfaction through timely and thorough communication with individual customers, municipalities, and other governmental agencies at pre-con meetings and throughout the project (such as state DOTS, Counties, etc). Influences external contractors who represent the company by shadowing corporate values. Driving Results: Monitors work/project goals and objectives. Understands pipeline contracts. Holds contractor accountable to contract items. Enforce company policies & standards, permit requirements, and environmental requirements on construction projects to ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations. Qualifications Construction Inspector (Grade 4): Education and Experience: Required: High School Diploma or GED with 3+ years of experience in construction utility operations OR BA/BS Degree in Engineering, Construction Management or related field, or Vocational Degree or Certificate in a technical field. Skills: Required: Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint Preferred: Construction Inspection Material Inspection Pipeline Inspection Welding/NDE Environmental Regulations CFR 49, Part 192 Regulations OSHA Regulations CAD Software GIS Pipeline Design Intermediate proficiency with GIS (Geospatial Information System) or comparable system Intermediate proficiency with Work Management System (WMS) or comparable system Has demonstrated Leadership skills with previous experience. Ability to interact professionally with Customers and Government agencies as demonstrate in previous experiences. Certifications/Licenses: Required: Valid Driver’s License Preferred: • CWI or CPWI• NACE Coating Inspection• API 1169 Working Conditions/Physical Requirements Exposure to all types of weather Travel may occasionally be required. Keyboarding Walking of construction sites Ability to stand/walk for extended periods of time. Climb in/out of excavations, kneel, bend, and climb ladders to inspect pipeline construction activity.
