POSITION SUMMARY:

The Intern position offers a comprehensive learning experience encompassing both broad-based and specialized facets of modern healthcare delivery practices. The intern will engage in one or more core projects, participate in weekly mentor/manager meetings, and join cross-functional educational initiatives. Throughout the internship, the intern will gain firsthand exposure to hospital operations across various departments, fostering familiarity with health services settings and organizational responsibilities such as assessment, planning, and care delivery. Moreover, the intern will have the opportunity to expand their conceptual knowledge base and skill set, culminating in a valuable learning experience beyond the duration of the internship.

POSITION EDUCATION/ QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Coursework towards a Bachelor's degree with a demonstrated interest in Healthcare.
  • Must be available on-site at this facility location for the duration of the 12 week internship
  • Ability to communicate clearly and empathetically with patients, families, and healthcare professionals
  • Experience using modern office equipment, computer systems and Microsoft Office programs.
  • Must work effectively as a team member, with management staff, and must be able to work independently and/or unsupervised.
  • Maintain strict adherence to confidentiality and honesty standards, particularly regarding sensitive patient information.
  • Possess strong written and verbal communication skills, with an emphasis on clear communication within a healthcare environment.
  • Accuracy, attention to detail, ability to work as part of a team, excellent organization and problem solving skills, ability to assume initiative required.
  • Solid judgment in decision-making, ability to act with little or no supervision.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITES CONTINGENT ON HIRING DEPARTMENT:
  • Must be able to collect and analyze data in relation to expected outcomes.
  • Prioritize and handle diverse workload of projects, correspondences, and project/report tracking.
  • Draft, review, and edit reports, opinions, correspondence, articles, and other documents.
  • Must be able to use general office equipment such as computer and online healthcare research skills.
  • Must be able to meet the public and DHR officers, administrators and employees in a courteous manner, using tact and diplomacy.
  • Must be able to multi task and meet assignment deadlines
  • Gather and collect statistics for the Hospital
  • Assist in development of projects as assigned
  • Other duties as assigned by the Community Engagement & Organizational Development Manager

CUSTOMER SERVICE:

Provide excellent customer service to all DHR customers. All employees are required to attend the DHR C.A.R.E.S program which outlines the Customer Service Principals including: Commitment, Accountability, Respect, Excellence and Service.

AGE SPECIFIC:

Employees must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served in his/her assigned unit. The individual must demonstrate knowledge of principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirement relative to his or her age.
