Mott MacDonald is looking for a Utilities Engineer in Raleigh, NC. As a Utility engineer, you will be involved with utility projects, but will also have exposure to different rail, roadway, and civil infrastructure projects. Not only will you be involved in a wide range of responsibilities, but you'll also have the opportunity to develop communication and leadership skills.



Responsibilities will include, but may not be limited to:

  • Assists in the preparation and modification of reports, specifications, plans, studies, and designs for projects.

  • Receives objectives and technical advice from supervisor and project team leads.

  • Compiles and computes a variety of engineering data.

  • Work collaboratively with the design team to develop detailed design documents for construction plans.

  • Perform relocation design of municipal and private third-party utilities on civil infrastructure projects.

  • Review interface designs against existing and proposed utility infrastructure and work collaboratively with various project teams to resolve conflicts.

  • Prepare plans, and details and develop engineering drawings, specifications, and other project deliverables.

  • Work with utility coordination staff that handle the dry utility relocations on projects

  • Attend project meetings, and prepare agendas and meeting minutes.

  • Must have the ability to work on multiple unique assignments simultaneously.


We invite applications from candidates with the following experience:

  • Bachelor's in Engineering-related degree

  • 5-10+ years experience in transportation or civil engineering

  • Engineering design background, preferably utilities, drainage, roadway, land development, or municipal engineering

  • Proficiency with CAD particularly MicroStation and OpenRoads

  • Registered Professional Engineer in good standing (or the ability to obtain a P.Ein NC within 12 months)

  • Technical background and project experience demonstrating the potential to grow into a design role in the transportation field



  • Written and oral communication skills, including the ability to prepare and present effective technical reports

  • Occasional travel and will require a Driver's License
