General Statement of Job

Under general supervision, responsible for boat rental service, bank fishing program, park maintenance, and the enforcement of rules and regulations. This is a labor-related position. Reports to Parks Manager.
Special Duties & Responsibilities

  • Manages the renting of recreation equipment; sale and distribution of permits; answers questions, gives information, and explains policies.
  • Processes sales and distribution of permits.
  • Maintains an accurate written record of all money transactions.
  • Enforces rules and regulations by patrolling the area on foot.
  • Reports unauthorized practices, safety and health hazards, complaints, or suspicious activities to the Parks Manager.
  • Inspects each boat before its launch from the dock or launch area.
  • Reports loss or damage of recreational equipment or park facility (grounds/buildings) on the appropriate forms.
  • Processes loss/damage forms and submits them to the Parks Manager.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
Minimum Training & Experience

High School Diploma or equivalent combination of experience and training, which provides the required skills, knowledge, and abilities.

Must complete OSHA 10-Hour (General Industry) Certification within 30 days of hire and Confined Space Training within six (6) months of hire.

Must complete Control of Hazardous Energy Awareness (General Industry) Training within 30 days of hire.
Special Requirements
  • Knowledge of maintenance requirements of a typical small park; thorough knowledge of water and park safety applicable to the park and its users; ability to plan and organize work.
  • Knowledge of basic groundskeeping practices and procedures.
  • Knowledge of hazards and applicable safety requirements of the area of assignment and equipment,
  • Ability to enforce rules and regulations, as designated in the Spotsylvania County Ni River and Hunting Run Reservoir Ordinance, Chapter 22, Article III.
  • Ability to perform strenuous work under varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral instructions.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships as necessitated by work assignments.
  • Ability to compare and/or judge the readily observable, functional, structural, or compositional characteristics (whether similar or divergent from obvious standards) of data, people, or things.
  • Ability to speak and/or signal people to convey or exchange information. Includes giving/receiving instructions, assignments, or directions from superiors.
  • Ability to read manuals, forms, etc.
  • Ability to prepare reports, etc. using a prescribed format.
  • Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions; to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in or from standardized situations.
  • Ability to record and deliver information, explain procedures, and follow oral and written instructions. Ability to communicate effectively and efficiently in standard English.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Must be able to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 25 pounds of force frequently and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Physical demand requirements are for Heavy Work. Requires the ability to inspect items for proper length, width, and shape. Requires the ability to coordinate hands and eyes rapidly and accurately. Requires the ability to handle a variety of items such as janitorial equipment. Must have minimal levels of eye/hand/foot coordination. Requires the ability to differentiate between colors and shades of color. Requires the ability to talk and hear: (Talking: expressing or exchanging ideas by means of spoken words. Hearing: perceiving the nature of sounds by ear.) Must be able to communicate via telephone.
