The Juvenile Justice Counselor
- The Juvenile Justice Counselor is responsible for providing intensive therapeutic probation services for at risk youth by:
- Making appropriate weekly contacts with clients based on level of intensity in the program, ensuring that evidence-based curriculum is completed.
- Providing 24 hours on-call service for youth and families for crisis 7 days per week.
- Receiving curfew call-ins every night from 9-10pm from all youth on caseload.
- Drug screening clients according to level of intensity in program.
- Completing McNabb intake paperwork, treatment plan and other documentation related to the case in a timely manner.
- Communicating regularly with court staff for updates on client progress.
- Partnering with community resources to ensure the success of clients in the program, including local, court staff, other mental health professionals, and any additional community partners.
- Attending all court hearings and CFTMs for clients.

1. Maintain a caseload comprised of High, Medium, Low and Monitoring Level clients for a minimum of 3 months.
- Conduct Visits according to the level of care: High Level-3 interventions per week; Medium Level-2 interventions per week; Low Level-1 intervention per week; Monitoring Level-1 intervention per month until release from probation.
- Counselors will be available for crisis management 24 hours 7 days per week for clients and families.
- Counselor responds to referrals within 48 hours and schedules intake with client and family.
- Counselor will ensure client completes individualized curriculum prior to program completion. Content will be evidence based and individualized to fit client's needs.
- Curfew Checks: Provide for clients to call in for curfew nightly from 9-10pm 7 days per week.
- Drug Screens: Administers drug screens upon intake and discharge as well as randomly or as needed while in the program.
- School Monitoring: Maintain contact with school personnel to monitor grades, attendance and disciplinary records monthly.
- Community Service: Counselor monitors completion of community service hours if assigned.
- Counselor attends all court hearings, adhere to court dress code and maintain a professional presence in court. If counselor is unable to attend a court hearing, he or she is responsible for arranging coverage.
- Documentation must be submitted to EMR within 24 hours, including intake paperwork, treatment plans, progress notes for all interventions, group contact notes, court hearing outcomes.
- Drug screen results and curfew check documentation will be submitted to EMR as available.
- Caseload list will be updated by counselors on a regular basis.
- Program coordinator will be informed of any major incidents or changes in clients' status immediately.
- Counselors will update court files monthly and prior to closing cases and keep court staff informed of any impending completions of the program.
- Counselors must complete 40 hours of professional development training per fiscal year.
- Counselors will attend conferences such as TJCSA annually or as available.
- Counselors will attend any other mandatory McNabb training or training that Program Coordinator deems necessary.
- Starting salary for this position is approximately $17.58 /hr based on relevant experience and education.
Education / Knowledge:
- Bachelor's Degree in Social Science or related fields.
- Experience working with adolescents in social services field is preferred.
- Experience working in the court system and providing liaison services with schools and other community resources is also beneficial.
- Exposure to biological hazards.
- Hearing of normal and soft tones.
- Close eye work.
- Lifting up to 50 lbs.
- Pushing/pulling up to 150 lbs.
- Frequent sitting, standing, walking, bending, stooping, and reaching.
- Regular attendance is an essential job function.
- Required to be certified in CPR/First Aid and trained in Handle with Care de-escalation techniques.
