Construction Trainer

Job Overview: The Construction Trainer assists the Construction Supervisor in coordinating and completing rehabilitation and new construction projects. This role is responsible for maintaining the tool library, managing and coordinating "do-it-yourself" workshops and training sessions, and supporting the Construction Supervisor with additional tasks and duties as assigned. The Construction Trainer plays a vital role in ensuring project efficiency, safety, and community engagement through hands-on training and resource management. Specific responsibilities: To train and instruct families and volunteers on how to construct/rehab their house To track the volunteer hours. To track sweat equity hours for families To maintain the tool library, keeping it locked unless the clients request tools, and keeping the tool library record updated a. To check out and in the tools for the families to use. b. To make sure that all the tools are in good operating condition c. To instruct the families and volunteers on the correct use of the tools. d. To ensure that all safety precautions are being taken by the volunteers and the families. Maintain and control inventory in the shed/warehouse, maintaining PA tools and machinery, tagging them for inventory control together with other Construction Trainer(s) To maintain landscaping around office and work yard as necessary Assist construction supervisor in identifying any problem areas in construction, safety and to alleviate problem(s). Conduct field visits when assigned to do so by supervisor. Assist in maintain upkeep of vehicles and tools 8. Workclosely with construction labor to ensure that allworkis completedproperly, efficiently and while following all safetystandards and guidelines. 9. Training and Education Workshops: Anchoring and Weatherization Classes: The Construction Trainer will conduct specialized classes for families and volunteers focused on essential home-building techniques, including proper anchoring for structural stability and weatherization methods to protect homes from the elements. These classes will provide hands-on learning to ensure participants understand foundational techniques that contribute to long-term home durability and safety. Heat Stress Awareness and Prevention Training: Recognizing the importance of safety during construction, the Construction Trainer will provide heat stress training to educate families and volunteers on recognizing signs of heat exhaustion, understanding risk factors, and implementing preventative measures to stay safe during high-temperature work. Training will include best practices for hydration, appropriate clothing, work-rest cycles, and other heat-related safety practices. Do-It-Yourself (DIY) Trainings and Workshops: The Construction Trainer will organize DIY workshops designed to empower families to perform basic maintenance and minor repairs on their own homes. These workshops may cover skills such as patching drywall, installing fixtures, basic plumbing repairs, landscaping, and other practical skills. Participants will leave equipped with the knowledge and confidence to maintain and improve their homes independently. Other duties as assigned by supervisor and or Assistant Executive Director as needed. If a family/client attempts to develop this type of relationship, politely decline and inform the Assistant Executive Director and Director immediately. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of residential construction and remodeling trades, practices, procedures, techniques, tools and equipment, materials, specifications, quality control, cost control, and safety. Ability to perform tasks on all areas and aspects of construction projects. Ability to climb ladders, crawl, lift and manipulate objects of up to 80 lbs for 50 feet. Proficient at the following tasks: stain-grade trim work, hang doors, drill and set door hardware, set windows, tape and float Good communication skills. Fluent in Spanish and English Ability to establish priorities, work independently, and proceed with objectives without supervision. Ability to handle and resolve recurring problems.
