Lab Supervisor - Generation Park

PRIMARY FUNCTION: Supports student success through the procurement preparation, management, and disposal of science laboratory materials, purchase and maintenance of laboratory equipment, management of laboratory assistants, and support enforcement of laboratory safety.

Essential Job Functions:
  • Ensures prompt preparation and removal of general biology and geology labs.
  • Ensures prompt preparation and removal of chemistry labs.
  • Hires, trains, and supervises student lab assistants.
  • Ensures prompt preparation and removal of geology and physics and engineering labs, when requested.
  • Communicates with faculty about lab needs and issues.
  • Prepares and schedules chemical and biological hazardous waste disposal for the science department.
  • Monitors lab budgets and supply inventories. Purchases supplies and equipment for biology, chemistry, geology and physics labs.
  • Enters payroll and purchasing information into Banner.
  • Maintains knowledge of lab and chemical Federal, State, and local regulations. Prepare reports for District Safety Office, Harris County Fire Marshall, Homeland Security, FBI, Texas Department of Transportation, College Procurement Office, NSI Waste Treatment, and Biomedical Waste Solutions.
  • Maintains lab equipment: arranges for major and maintenance repairs, trains for new scientific equipment, and conducts minor repairs on electronic and scientific equipment.
Additional Job Functions:
  • Plans for and contributes to STEM events.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Ability to demonstrate the College values
  • Knowledge of laboratory preparation and disposal methods, laboratory safety and quality control
  • Knowledge of federal and state laboratory requirements, and MSDS guidelines
  • Must be very organized and proactive
Required Education:
  • Associate degree in science or science-related field
Preferred Education:
  • Bachelor's degree in science or related field
Required Experience:
  • Prior laboratory work experience
Preferred Experience:
  • Two years of laboratory supervisory experience


Note: The duties of this position require a physical presence at the assigned on-site work location during unrestricted operations with very limited or no opportunity for remote work arrangements.

Salary Grade: 109

Salary is based on the Board-approved salary schedule for the current fiscal year. See Salary Schedule
