Overall Objectives of Position
The Benefits and Compensation Coordinator is responsible for working with operational leaders to maintain an accurate suite of job descriptions that capture the core responsibilities, requirements, and qualifications associated with each position in tribal government. The incumbent will utilize a variety of systems and resources to ensure positions are appropriate categorized with respect to the FLSA and assigned market appropriate wage/salary ranges. Additionally, the incumbent will perform a series of routine and ad-hoc reporting to ensure compliance with relevant state and federal laws and track/trend market directionality such that the Tribe is offering complaint, competitive and reasonable pay ranges. The incumbent is also responsible providing assistance and technical support in all aspects of the Tribe’s benefits programs, leave administration, etc. This position will regularly engage directly with the employee population and field general HR, Payroll, and other questions that arise from staff and well as manage a variety of data entry and other system related activities. This job description is not an all-inclusive list of duties and responsibilities of this position as the Benefits and Compensation Coordinator is expected to perform all duties and responsibilities necessary to meet the goals and objectives of applicable programs.
The Benefits and Compensation Coordinator is expected to live the Purpose and Values of the Poarch Band of Creek Indians and will go beyond the call of duty.

Primary Responsibilities of the Benefits and Compensation Coordinator

  • Develops, finalizes, and maintains job descriptions, while working closely with the Employment Manager and Senior Manager of HR Operations.
  • Works with department directors to ensure job descriptions are updated and re-evaluated as needed.
  • Processes and tracks information pertaining to new jobs, job descriptions, and compendium changes.
  • Evaluates jobs using survey matches and/or internal comparators; recommends starting salary for new hires, promotions, etc. Collects and analyzes data to determine appropriate salary ranges and job titles of approved and proposed positions.
  • Assists with the maintenance and processing of evaluations, assorted ad-hoc reports on various HR metrics, and assisting with presentation creation.
  • Handles special projects as assigned.
  • Assists with ensuring compliance with Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA). Prepares data for reporting in compensation surveys and analyzes results to determine impact. Assists with the collection, maintenance, and processing of human resources data for use in developing and administering various personnel functions.
  • Maintains employee records; Performs data uploads, imports, and exports to update employee data in the HRIS.
  • Responsible for maintaining and updating all departmental organizational charts in a timely manner.
  • Assists staff with tasks/projects related to employee benefits including benefits reports, billing, FMLA, TML, Worker’s Compensation, retirement, insurance, etc.
  • Keeps chain of command updated on potential problems with compensation and/or benefits.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the appropriate person.

Education/License/Certification and Experience Requirements
  • Must possess one (1) of the following:
    • a. Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Human Resources, Finance or Accounting, or
    • b. Verifiable Five (5) years of employment experience in compensation and/or benefits.
  • Three (3) years of employment experience in Human Resources required.
Skills Required
  • Demonstrated proficiency in English, spelling, punctuation, and writing composition. Ability to create impactful presentations and employee/candidate communications.
  • Must have a working knowledge of computers with the ability to work in a Windows environment with various software programs such as Word, Excel, etc. Must successfully pass pre-employment computer skills exam.
  • Absolute confidentiality.
  • Ability to effectively work and communicate with other staff members and with the general public while maintaining a professional approach in the face of adversity.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish workload priorities, handle multi-tasks, and balance diverse projects. Must have a sense of urgency when completing tasks with a strong focus on timely follow up.
  • Knowledge of HR principles and practices.
  • Must be people oriented and relate well to people from diverse backgrounds.
  • Excellent time management, interpersonal, communication, presentation, organization, decision-making, and planning skills.
Additional Requirements
  • Must possess a valid state driver’s license and an insurable driving record according to Tribal insurance guidelines.
  • Must successfully pass the required criminal and character background check.
  • Ability to travel and participate in required training, leadership development, and other events.
  • Ability to adequately and successfully perform all duties and responsibilities of this position.
