School Counselor
Exempt, Salary - 190 Contracted Days

Reports to: Principal, Grow Academy
Summary Description: Utilizing leadership, advocacy, and collaboration, the Grow Academy school counselor will promote student success, provide preventive services, and respond to identified student needs by implementing a comprehensive school counseling program that addresses academic, career, and personal/social development for all students.
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
- Maintains career resources, college information, parent/guardian resources, teacher resources, community resources, etc.
- Uses the majority of time providing direct services through the Guidance Curriculum, Individual Student Planning and Preventive and Responsive Services and most remaining time in program management, system support and accountability
- Provides applicable materials and resources to teachers for doing guidance activities in their classrooms.
- Implements developmentally appropriate and prevention-oriented group activities to meet student needs and school goals.
- Conducts classroom guidance lessons.
- Assists all students, individually or in groups, with developing academic, career and personal/social skills, goals and plans.
- Conducts counseling sessions with students.
- Appropriately guides students in developing goals based on individual data and other relevant information
- Assist with planning and implementing STAR value celebrations.
- Work with Admin Team to plan and deliver periodic Parent Information Nights
- Develop and monitor Behavior Success Plans with Tier II students
- Accurately and appropriately interprets and utilizes student data
- Collaborates with parents/guardians and educators to assist students with Academic, Social and Career planning.
- Sends written communications to parents/guardians and teachers
- Provides individual and group counseling to students with identified concerns and needs
- Consults and collaborates effectively with parents/guardians, teachers, administrators and other educational/community resources regarding students with identified concerns and needs
- Provides staff with resources to accommodate individual differences and needs of students
- Implements an effective referral and follow-up process
- Manages and communicates a clear means for counseling referrals and other access to counseling services
- Monitors student academic performance, behavior and attendance and assists with appropriate intervention
- Trained in Restorative Justice strategies
- Familiarity with student achievement data
- Knowledge of procedures for assessing achievement, intellectual, emotional, and behavioral functioning for educational purposes
- Knowledge of prevention and intervention strategies, including behavior management interventions and counseling techniques
- Knowledge of psycho-social development
- Strong consultation skills for conferencing with teachers, parents and students
- Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to maintain an effective working relationship with faculty, students, parents, and members of the community
- Clear Pupil Personnel Services Credential
- Counseling experience preferred
- 3-5 years' experience in Counseling at a school
- 1-2 years' of experience teaching preferred
