As a Senior DevOps Engineer at OCC, you would be able to impact transformative change through data science, working with recognized leaders across multiple fields in a fast-paced learning environment.

Sample projects include:

  • Deploying, supporting, and managing cloud-native open-source software on various cloud platforms.
  • Building new and maintaining existing project-specific Data Commons and Data Meshes to accelerate the pace of research and discovery across academia, industry, and government stakeholders.
  • Participating in industry standards-setting groups focused on improving interoperability standards, security, CI/CD, CI/CD, etc.

Responsibilities:

  • Performing a variety of activities relating to infrastructure and software support or development. Providing analysis, design, development, debugging, and modification of computer code for end-user applications, beta general releases, web pages, and production support. Troubleshooting problems using existing procedures to find a possible solution.
  • Production Support - Triage, research, communicate, address and production incidents.
  • Production Monitoring - Wrangle disparate system monitoring assets and develop standard analytics to inform optimization, define benchmarks and confidence intervals, and forecast to mitigate production incidents proactively.
  • CI/CD Design & Implementation - Design, implement, and maintain a build and deployment automation solution to enable CI/CD for hybrid cloud architecture (on-prem and public cloud).
  • Security Automation - assist with the automation of our security and compliance procedures.
  • Stay abreast of broad technical knowledge of existing and emerging technologies, including public cloud offerings from Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure, and Google Cloud, including 3rd party opensource software.

Experience: 6+ direct hands-on experience working on AWS and strong skills with the following:

  • Develop infrastructure, configuration, and deployment automation.
  • Automate processes via scripting (Terraform, Serverless Functions, Python, or other dynamic and cloud-native languages).
  • Implement and troubleshoot AWS (EC2/Unix/Linux) systems.
  • Manage load balancing technologies (Nginx, AWS ELB/ALB, etc.).
  • Use source control and build systems (SVN, Git, Jenkins, etc).
  • Manage container-based deployment (Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Configure and troubleshoot log aggregation tools (ELK stack, Splunk).
  • Monitor and troubleshoot cloud-based services and infrastructure
  • Experience with Elastic stack, PostgreSQL, or Spark.
  • Work in an agile environment to deploy and implement technology.

  • Ability to collaborate with minimal supervision and oversight and ensure accountability for deliverables and outcomes.
  • Ability to take a broad plan, break it into incremental tasks, and oversee the completion of each task.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage workload to meet critical project milestones and deadlines.
  • Ability to persuade others to adopt new structures or systems to meet objectives.
  • Ability to confidentially communicate sensitive matters such as strategic initiatives, trade secrets, quiet periods, and scientific discoveries yet to be put in the public domain.
