Job Summary of the Echo Vascular Technologist

Responsible for performing all assigned diagnostic ultrasound exams in a timely manner. Performs procedures according to physician's orders or per prescription on outpatients. As a member of the care team, the Ultrasound Sonographer is responsible for working collaboratively with other members to assure safe and accurate delivery of patient care. Assumes, under the direction of the Laboratory, responsibility for patient specimen testing, quality control, quality improvement, and equipment maintenance.

Responsibilities of the Echo Vascular Technologist
  • The Echo Sonographer is responsible for direct and indirect patient care, diagnostic tests which include Adult Echocardiogram, TEE's and Pharmacologic/Exercise Cardiac Stress Testing.
  • Maintain professional standards and seeks professional growth.
  • Employee's conduct must reflect the company's values and a commitment to the Code of Conduct.
  • Employee reflects SDH Service Excellence standards in every interaction.
  • Consistently produce scans of optimal diagnostic quality on patients ranging from Neonatal to Geriatric.
  • Document, on PACS or in writing, information seen during exam.
  • Complete quality scans in a timely manner, effectively organize and prioritize workflow to meet STAT and urgent demands.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in scanning trauma, acute & challenging patients; possess skill to modify positioning and scanning factors when standard cannot be performed.
  • Relay to Cardiologist any relevant patient information.
  • Possess know ledge of disease processes and image these findings adequately; communicate them to the Cardiologist.
  • Assist physicians performing invasive exams.
  • Perform procedures in OR.
  • Coordinate procedures with other departments
  • Ensure Ultrasound and department equipment is functioning properly; follow protocol for malfunctions.
  • Safely transport patient by utilizing the transporting policies.
  • Maintain a clean organized and safe work environment.
  • Operate Department patient monitoring devices and equipment.
  • Adhere to Hospital safety policies, Disaster/Safety Manual and Dept. Hazard Communication Manual.
  • Take call on a rotating basis. Arrives at HHA within 45 minutes of receipt of call.
  • Display flexibility and volunteer to work odd or extra shifts when workloads or absences warrant.
  • Performs clerical responsibilities as required. Complete assigned clerical and filing duties for each shift.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications of the Echo Vascular Technologist

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • Associate degree in Diagnostic Ultrasound
  • Certificate of successful completion from an accredited school of cardiac ultrasound
  • One year of echocardiography experience preferred

LICENSES & CERTIFICATIONS:

  • Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) with American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) or Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) with Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI)
  • Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT) with American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) or Registered Vascular Specialist (RVS) with Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI)
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date
