Position: Broadband & Digital Equity Fellow - Outreach & Programs

Reports to: Broadband & Digital Equity Program Manager

The Office of Broadband and Digital Equity (BDE) was created to lead Baltimore's efforts to permanently close the Digital Divide and serves as Baltimore City government's primary liaison with internal and external stakeholders in digital equity. The Broadband and Digital Equity Fellow will be an integral component of strengthening local digital equity ecosystems through the development of digital inclusion programming and community engagement. The BDE Fellow will supplement the technological expertise that exists within BCIT.

Broadband & Digital Equity Fellow responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following:
  • Assist with organizing programs and activities in accordance with the mission and goals of the BDE Office.
  • Perform digital equity focused research and complete research projects within tight timeframes.
  • Provide information and recommendations on issues regarding digital equity, including technology literacy, affordable internet programs, and delivery of community-based digital equity services.
  • Assist with program coordination in addressing functional broadband affordability and ensuring residents have access to internet-enabled devices, digital literacy training, and quality technical support.
  • Develop presentations and other writing and digital materials for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Conduct outreach and community engagement to support awareness and understanding about the significance of digital equity in BDE Office/City efforts.
  • Provide world-class customer service to internal and external stakeholders.
An ideal candidate will possess the following expertise and qualities:
  • Flexible work schedule to align with the BDE Office workday/hours
  • Knowledge of equity and social justice issues, especially those that directly involve members of under-represented communities and the organizations that provide services to them
  • Ability to problem solve
  • Ability to plan and organize
  • Ability to communicate effectively with diverse groups
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (including Teams)
  • Ability to present recommendations clearly and concisely
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information
  • Ability to communicate effectively
  • Ability to work independently

  • Writing Sample with prompt in any of the following fields:
    • Digital Education (ages 5 - 105)
    • Economics, Finance, or Public Administration
    • Broadband Legal and Regulatory
    • Social Work, Psychology, Sociology, Mental Health/Telehealth (focus on macro level)
