Senior Plan Check Engineer

Our Building Plan Review Department is currently hiring for a Senior Plan Check Engineer. Under direction, the Senior Plan Check Engineer will supervise and check building plans for residential, commercial and other structures to ensure compliance with building, mechanical, electrical and plumbing, energy, Calgreen codes, local ordinances, and State and Federal law, and conduct field inspections.
We only consider candidates living locally or within the State of CA. We do not pay any relocation expenses.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Strong understanding of California Building Standards Codes and Referenced Standards.
- Ability to read and interpret maps, construction diagrams, plans, blueprints and specifications and evaluate them for compliance with governing codes and standards.
- Exhibit sound judgment in providing expert code interpretation.
- Ability to suggest alternate forms of compliance with codes and ordinances.
- Prepare and present effective oral and written reports.
- Represent the department at internal and external meetings.
- Current on legal and technical developments pertaining to building construction and codes.
- Mentor and train plans examiners and plan check engineers.
- May supervise plans examiners and/or plan check engineers.
- Function independently as an expert in matters of specialized code, rules, and policy.
- Perform other related duties as required.
- 10 to 15 years of industry experience, including 5 years reviewing plans for conformance to model codes.
- Current PE California License is required.
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an accredited college or university.
- Multiple ICC Certifications, including Building Plans Examiner Certification highly desired.
- Strong computer skills.
- Experience in management.
- Excellent communicator and deals effectively with everyone regardless of level of technical expertise.
- Ability to remain calm in stressful situations.
- Possession and maintenance of a valid Class "C" California driver's license is required.
- Able to drive to job sites and be able to walk in and through job sites for extended periods.
- Able to lift and carry equipment weighing up to 35 lbs.
- Sit for extended periods of time.
- Work with detailed, finely printed documents.

The compensation for this position is $116,000.00 to $162,000.00 annually
Exact compensation may vary based on skills, experience, and location.
