Responsibilities:

1. Monitor the progress of chronic illnesses and intervene as necessary, following established policies and protocols.
2. Administer vaccinations and prescribe medications or treatments for acute and chronic conditions, including performing minor surgeries within training and competency limits.
3. Conduct routine physical exams to assess the control or status of chronic conditions and diagnose new conditions.
4. Evaluate patients for the need for specialty referrals and review consultation reports, approving or disapproving recommendations as appropriate.
5. Order and review the results of laboratory, x-ray, and other diagnostic tests as needed.
6. Collaborate with the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) to facilitate medical reclassification and requests for non-formulary medications.
7. Provide routine and emergency medical care to patients according to scheduled shifts.
8. Examine, diagnose, and treat patients within the scope of practice defined by the State of Ohio Nursing Board.
9. Conduct rounds on infirmary patients as directed by the CMO.
10. Document medical information gathered during patient interviews following relevant guidelines, policies, and protocols, including all assessments, diagnostic impressions, treatment plans, and follow-up parameters.
11. Cooperate with medical quality oversight provided by the CMO and accept suggestions, redirection, and guidance.
12. Attend professional institutional-specific meetings as requested by the Warden, Deputy Warden, or CMO.
13. Participate actively in monthly institution medical Continuous Quality Improvement meetings.

Qualifications:

1. Current certification as a Nurse Practitioner.
2. License to practice as a Nurse Practitioner in the State of Ohio.
3. Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
4. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
5. Strong clinical judgment and decision-making abilities.
6. Experience in providing healthcare services to diverse populations preferred.
7. Knowledge of correctional healthcare practices and regulations is a plus.
