Overview

This position has the responsibilities which include management and monitoring of Netezza and DB2 databases in support of the Enterprise Data Warehouse environment. Test and implement changes/enhancements to the database using SQL scripts. Apply knowledge of database management systems to improve performance, stability and recoverability. Develop, maintain and support Unix shell scripts. Responsible for planning, coordinating and implementing security measures to safeguard the computer database.

*This position is located in Raleigh, NC and will be 3 days in the office and 2 days remote

Responsibilities

  • Perform database performance analysis, ongoing maintenance/tuning to ensure maximum performance on Netezza and DB2 UDB systems.
  • Assist development teams with planning and implementing database changes and query optimization.
  • Recommend and implement a detailed security design based on minimum necessary privileges required.
  • Review SQL queries and database design for performance.
  • Work as part of a project team to coordinate database development and determine project scope and limitations.
  • Support QA and DEV environments with refresh tasks.
  • Develop and implement data patches to address incidents and enhancements.
  • Facilitate implementation of data, script and/or code changes into the production environment.

Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree and 4 years of experience in Software application development and maintenance

OR

High School Diploma or GED and 8 years of experience in Software application development and maintenance

  • Preferred Education: Bachelor Degree
  • Preferred Area of Study: Computer Science
  • Preferred qualifications:
    • Prefer 6 years of combined experience in Netezza and DB2 UDB.
    • Exposure to mainframe, desktop, and UNIX system support is required. Support experience will include installation, setup and configuration, and troubleshooting of hardware, software, and network issues.
    • Expert understanding and application of data warehouse architecture principles; including data warehouse data storage strategy/technique (ODS, EDW, DM, ROLAP, MOLAP, etc.).
    • Strong shell scripting (ksh) and SQL experience, specifically on DB2 and Netezza.
    • Expert level experience in administering large databases in mission critical environment.
    • Must have good understanding of Netezza architecture (grooming, distribution, etc.).
    • Develop and define administrative and operational standard practices to leverage Netezza performance.
    • Solid experience in Netezza system configuration and setup with its utilities and tool sets.
    • Strong knowledge and experience with computer hardware including Servers, Network, SAN technologies, I/O subsystems.
    • Experience in SDLC and change management process.
    • Basic project planning and management, strong communication and interpersonal skills, leadership abilities, strong technical abilities, quick study of new technology via on the job training, the intellect to resolve complex problems logically and methodically, and good judgment to involve and communicate with vendors, senior level technicians and management.
    • Positive attitude, problem solving skills and initiative are important key behaviors.
    • Banking or financial services industry experience preferred.
