GENERAL SUMMARY OF DUTIES:
Responsible for all aspects involved in Ultrasound department to include performing all routine diagnostic ultrasound procedures. Assists physicians in performing invasive Ultrasound procedures. Responsible for evaluating appropriate ultrasound technique and proper selection and utilization of ultrasound probes. Ensures comprehensive ultrasound imaging of the appropriate anatomical structures as per the physician's order. Performs all ultrasound procedures under the indirect supervision of the Radiologist.
Position also includes maintaining competency in performing all routine diagnostic x-ray procedures and assisting in other areas of the department as requested.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Technologists must be registered and in good standing with the ARDMS with credentialing in physics, vascular, abdominal and breast preferred.
- American Registry of Radiologic Technology (ARRT) preferred.
- Maintains certification in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR).
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Under the indirect supervision of the Radiologist, performs the full range of diagnostic Ultrasound procedures as per the established Radiologist protocols. Assist physicians with invasive US biopsy procedures.
- Performs and evaluates ultrasound images exams providing accurate documentation and images of procedure(s) results. Communicates pertinent information to the Radiologist regarding the procedure & findings.
- Demonstrates competence in utilizing all imaging support equipment to include transducers, multi-format cameras, printers, RIS and PACS system.
- Maintains inventory of all required procedure supplies.
- Maintains exams rooms, patient's waiting room and work area in clean, orderly, and safe condition.
- Comprehensively explains the ultrasound process and procedure to the patient and answers any questions the patient has regarding the procedure to alleviate any patient anxiety.
- Accurately operates all functions of the RIS system to include entering orders and charging of all procedures.
- Displays superior interpersonal skills with patients and peers.
- Reports any hazardous conditions or equipment breakdown immediately to supervisor.
- Attends all required safety training programs and describe his/her responsibilities related to general safety, department/service safety, and specific job-related hazards.
- Maintains proper working condition of all equipment; promptly reports any equipment variances or malfunction to the Manager.
- Maintains competencies in all Ultrasound and all diagnostic x-ray procedures.
- Assists in all areas of the Imaging department when not performing Ultrasound procedures.
