Assist with department opioid response projects including planning and implementation of project, working with community agencies and other partners, and assisting with general administration of the project.

Work Location - This position may be eligible for flexible work arrangements, including hybrid work with some days working remotely and some days working in the office.

Job Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assist opioid-response staff with project planning and development of project procedures.
  • Assist with various aspects of implementing opioid-response projects: promotion, participant registration and tracking, record keeping, etc.
  • Make presentations to community groups to recruit participation in department programs.
  • Work with the principal investigator on implementation of research protocol, recruitment of study subjects and obtaining consent to participate in project activities.
  • Maintain records of opioid-response project activities and enter and review data quality using existing reporting tools.
  • Work with community agencies and partners contracted for opioid-response programs providing planning, technical assistance, communications, develop and maintain relationships, education and training as needed.
  • Assist opioid-response Program Manager with preparation and conducting meetings.
  • Represent the department and the opioid-response program at meetings and community events to promote participation in programs or to meet project goals.
  • Assist with planning and conducting community based and other events and programs, to include logistics, scheduling speakers, set up and break down, and other event details as needed.
  • Assist with planning and logistics regarding the deployment of the Mobile Medical Unit, such as reviewing data with project staff to determine deployment locations, assisting with record keeping, etc.
  • Assist project staff in evaluation of project effectiveness.
  • Write articles for City Talk and prepare fliers and other written communication to promote programs and special projects.
  • Perform administrative tasks such as formatting protocols, procedures guidelines, preparing agendas, assisting with preparation of project reports and budget reports, etc.
  • Participate in public health emergency preparedness training and response as assigned.
Required Qualifications

Minimum Education

Bachelor's Degree in Public Health, Psychology, Social Services, Health Care, a related field of equivalent.

Minimum Experience

One year of relevant experience.

An equivalent combination of education and experience closely related to the duties of the position WILL be considered.

Selection Process

The selection process will consist of one or more of the following steps: a rating of relevant education and experience (100%). It is important that your application show all the relevant education and experience you possess. This information will be used to determine which candidates will proceed in the selection process. Only those candidates who attain a passing score (70%)on each step in the selection process will be placed on the eligible list. The City of Minneapolis Human Resources Department reserves the right to limit the number in any phase of the selection process.

The City has determined that a criminal background check and/or qualifications check may be necessary for certain positions with this job title. This position is represented by a collective bargaining agreement between the City of Minneapolis and the Minneapolis Professional Employees Association (MPEA). Eligible List Statement

The names of applicants who meet minimum qualification and who pass the screening process shall be placed on the eligible list for employment consideration. This list will be certified to the hiring manager who may use the list to fill a vacancy of the same job title. This eligible list will expire 1 month after it has been established.

Interview Selection

The hiring authority reserves the right to determine the maximum number of candidates to interview from the established eligible list. If the hiring authority decides to interview other than by exam score order, they may select additional people to interview based on a candidate's education or experience related to the field, work history, or skills uniquely related to the operational needs of the position.

  • Knowledge of public health functions and public health issues.
  • Good analytical skills, and the ability to gather, arrange, and present information and ideas.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work in collaborative environment and maintain effective relationships with diverse special needs populations.
  • Ability to develop rapport with program participants in order to conduct diagnostic interviews.
  • Ability to work as part of a team in an environment that requires flexibility and responsiveness.
  • Ability to multi-task.
  • Knowledge of modern office computer software including word processing, spreadsheets and web-based navigation.
