Role Overview: Could you be our next Mainframe BA/QA? Globe Life is looking for an experienced Mainframe BA/QA to join the team In this role, you will be responsible for using your blend of analytical, technical, business, and testing skills to elicit business and technical requirements and perform testing throughout the sprint cycle. Reporting to the IT Sr. Application Manager, you will enable your team to develop effective technology solutions and deliver impactful business outcomes. As a critical team member, you will partner across the organization to support one or more technology products that enhance the experiences of our agents, internal employees, and policyholders. You will work cross-functionally to ensure successful delivery across moderately complex domains and capabilities. This is a hybrid position located in McKinney, TX (WFH Monday & Friday, In Office Tuesday-Thursday). What You Will Do:
  • Work as a development team member on a Scrum team, leveraging pi-shaped skills to proactively take on tasks that are necessary to meet sprint goals.
  • Partner with Solution Architecture on solution design, understanding the big picture and developing solutions that leverage technology effectively to meet business needs.
  • Partner with Product Management to understand business/technology needs and create/refine user stories, ensuring the Team Product Backlog is kept primed with 1-2 sprints' worth of work.
  • Understand and actively participate in refinement, story pointing, sprint planning, daily scrums, sprint reviews, and retrospectives.
  • Understand and document process flows for current, transition, and future states, including identification and analysis of gaps.
  • Understand data concepts and know how to retrieve data, analyze how the data is related to requirements, perform data mapping, identify patterns, draw conclusions, and effectively summarize findings into useable recommendations.
  • Understand system integration concepts and apply that understanding to design, writing appropriate technical / integration user stories, and system integration testing across multiple systems.
  • Write functional and non-functional requirements in the form of acceptance criteria, using the GHERKIN method.
  • Utilize a wide variety of requirements techniques to supplement user stories where appropriate (decision tables, wireframes, story mapping, etc.).
  • Design, plan, and execute functional, non-functional, system integration, end-to-end, and regression testing.
  • Conduct successful playback, sprint, and system demos that focus on delivered value and soliciting actionable feedback.
  • Understand and identify opportunities for reusability of requirements, testing, and design.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on supported products and technology.
  • Minimal travel required on an as needed basis.


What You Can Bring:
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science/Engineering/Information Systems or equivalent work experience in a technical position.
  • 2-4 years of experience in a technical and quality assurance analyst role.
  • 2+ years of experience working on a Scrum team and executing work within the Scrum framework.
  • Certified Scrum Master (CSM) or related agile certifications a plus.
  • Insurance industry experience in life, health and annuity a plus.
  • Ability to demonstrate the agile mindset, values, principles, and practices and how to excel on a high performing agile team.
  • Ability to generate new ideas and apply them to resolving complex business and technical problems.
  • Critical thinking skills, including the ability to identify risks, confidently make decisions, and recommend solutions.
  • Strong negotiation and facilitation skills, including the ability to influence others and drive problem resolution.
  • Ability to rapidly learn new domains, products, and technology.
  • Strong verbal communication skills, including the ability to clearly convey important information, ask effective questions, and listen and synthesize information.
  • Clear, concise written communication skills, including the ability to adjust writing style for the needs of various audiences and clearly articulate complex concepts.
  • Teamwork skills, including fostering a collaborative environment, effectively resolving conflicts, and maintaining team members' trust and respect.
  • Familiarity with Mainframe functionality such as CICS/On-line screens and concept of batch cycle processing.
  • Experience with Mainframe programming language a definite plus. (COBOL or Easytrieve)
  • Intermediate SQL skills, with the ability to use SQL to query and manipulate data for analysis and testing.
  • Understanding of DevOps, Continuous Delivery, and Acceptance Test Driven Development (ATDD)
  • Experience with application lifecycle management systems (Jira a plus).
  • Experience with test management systems (Zephyr a plus).
  • Experience with load testing and scalability concepts.
  • Automated testing skills a plus.
  • Experience with logging tools and analyzing logs.
  • Working knowledge of API technologies, including the use of Postman.
  • Understanding of UI/UX concepts and the ability to apply them to UI design.
