Title: Occupational Therapist
Qualifications:
Bachelor degree from an accredited university; Registered Occupational Therapist by the American Occupational Therapy Association; Familiar with the Michigan Revised Administration Rules for Special Education and with OT in the schools.
Job Goal:
Shall be responsible for the provision of Occupational Therapy services in support of Special Education as defined within the Michigan Revised Administrative rules for Special Education and Barry ISD policy and procedures. This shall include but not limited to completion of evaluations, reports, meetings, development of therapy goals, delivery of services, and consultation with appropriate individuals.
Essential Duties:
- Conduct assessments of students for the purpose of determining program eligibility and developing recommendations for treatment, appropriate assistive devices and/or school placement to help children meet their educational goals. Primary focus will be working with children birth to three as well as children preschool through middle school.
- Complete, present and disseminate a written report detailing the evaluation results.
- Participate/coordinate in IEPT/IFSP and MET meetings.
- Attend team meetings on specific students with extensive needs, along with other ISD and school staff on a regular basis.
- Develop goals and objectives based on student/family needs.
- Implement appropriate Occupational Therapy interventions that are disability related and to improve a student's capacity to benefit from their educational program.
- Provide direct Occupational Therapy services and consultation for the purpose of developing students' functional skills and performance in the home (birth to 3) and school setting, by addressing fine-motor/perception, visual-motor, sensory-motor, sensory processing, and self-care skills in compliance with established goals and objectives, and to help children meet their educational goals.
- Establish ongoing evaluation procedures for each student on caseload.
- Maintain appropriate records and reports including but not limited to: service documentation; student progress towards goals; and Medicaid billing (as appropriate).
- Meet required timelines including but not limited to: reports, evaluations, IEP/IFSP and MET requirements.
- Consult with students, teachers, parents, team members, other personnel and /or outside professionals for the purpose of providing information, developing plans for services, making recommendations and/or coordinating occupational therapy services with those of other disciplines.
- Participate in parent teacher conferences, as appropriate.
- Collaboration with district OT's regarding procedures/policies, professional development/inservice development
- Travel to meet job requirements.
- Adhere to Board Policies and Procedures.
- Other duties as assigned.
Reports to: Director of Special Education
This is a full-time position within the BIEA Collective Bargaining Agreement for January-June with potential for the 2024-2025 school year.
Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with the provisions established by Administration.
The final candidate for this position will be required (at their cost) to furnish Barry Intermediate School District with a current Michigan State Police and FBI criminal records LiveScan check prior to our recommendation to hire.
