The opportunity:

The Dredge Electrician reports directly to the Chief Engineer for daily duties/general maintenance and to receive direction and guidance concerning major repairs and upgrades. The Dredge Electrician is responsible for repair, troubleshooting and general and preventative maintenance of all electrical equipment aboard the vessel. They are also responsible to recommend and maintain adequate spare parts and consumable items for uninterrupted operation of all equipment as deemed prudent by Great Lakes Dredge & Dock Company and inventory these items into GLDD systems. The Dredge Electrician will work day watch and overtime as required. They work under the general administrative supervision of the Chief Engineer or, during the absence of the Chief Engineer, Assistant Engineer, Maintenance Superintendent.

Responsibilities and functions include:
  • Perform resistance, megger, voltage, and current tests frequently on all electrical equipment
  • Troubleshoot all high voltage switch board, MCC, Motor Controls issues as needed
  • Attend vessel related training onboard as required
  • Attend periodic training off site as required
  • Perform administrative duties, such as submitting required reports, requisitioning spare parts and needed consumables items, entering and completing Work Orders and Service Requisitions.
  • Submit daily and weekly reports to Chief Engineer and Electrical Superintendent
Experience required:
  • Must possess the ability to understand the principles of operation of an automated engine room monitoring system
  • 4 years minimal of marine machinery and the electrical equipment
Other requirements:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Must have a valid TWIC card
  • Must have a valid Driver’s License and reliable transportation
  • Must be able to lift, carry, pull, or push parts or supplies weighing up to 50 lbs
