SUMMARY

The Applications Engineer ensures Magnum Systems' sales quotation, product identification, and system design processes run smoothly, as well as, providing the best possibility of a successful/profitable application. This position will work closely with inside sales, customer service, and regional sales managers. This position relies on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals, follow proper procedures, and promote open communication in line with Magnum Systems' strategic initiatives. This position coordinates and reports on the work of others.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Establishes guidelines for acceptable performance language and outlines environmental/product parameters for optimal performance of system.
  • Works with sales team and lab technician to identify the right solutions for customer satisfaction and Magnum Systems performance reputation.
  • Works with purchasing to identify technical specifications and integration capabilities.
  • Balances multiple projects and quotations in various stages as directed by Technical Sales Manager.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned, including special projects.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required:

  • BA/BS in Mechanical Engineering/Design or five-years relevant experience
  • 5 years progressive experience in engineering/design in packaging and/or processing manufacturing environment or equivalent
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Word

Preferred:

  • AutoCAD experience

SKILL REQUIREMENTS

  • Critical Thinking. Able to proactively identify needs, predict obstacles, assess solutions, and communicate risk/reward evaluation with supporting documentation/data.
  • Must work closely with other departments, employees, and customers. Listening and providing an environment for clear and open communication from all levels is critical.
  • Detail Oriented. Understands that everything that leaves our facility is a representation of the company. Must have concept of "the big picture" when it comes to internal changes of policy or procedure. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected with an end goal of consistency in performance and deliverables.
  • Time Management/Organizational Skills. Deadline oriented for deliverables and overall timeline coordination. Must be able to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Mechanical Skills. High level of expertise in layout/design concepts and mechanical engineering (preferably in packaging or processing),
  • Continuous education driven. Looking to improve every day and leading by example.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • This position operates primarily in a professional office setting. This role routinely involves the use of standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.
  • This position may also operate in manufacturing areas and is subject to both indoor (manufacturing floor) and outside environmental conditions (occasional site visits) and may be required to function in narrow aisles or passageways.
  • The performance of this position may occasionally require exposure to the manufacturing areas, which may require the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses with side shields, mandatory hearing protection, and safety footwear.
  • Exposure to a variety of physical conditions/hazards such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, electrical currents, exposure to chemicals, dust, fumes, poor ventilation, and varying temperatures.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Sitting: Frequently seated at a workstation for extended periods to design, analyze, and troubleshoot processes or software systems.
  • Standing: Regularly standing for prolonged durations while supervising manufacturing processes, inspecting equipment, or conducting tests on the shop floor.
  • Medium Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently.
  • Reaching and Typing: Frequent reaching and finger dexterity for managing computer tasks, operating a phone, and handling paperwork. Regularly reaching to adjust equipment, access tools, or perform inspections in elevated or confined spaces.
  • Lifting: Occasionally lifting and moving/carrying objects such as parts, tools, components, or technical materials.
  • Climbing: Occasionally climbing ladders or steps to access elevated platforms or machinery.
  • Pushing/Pulling: Occasionally pushing or pulling carts, trolleys, or equipment.
  • Bending/Crouching: Occasionally bending, crouching, or kneeling to access machines, inspect parts, or perform hands-on troubleshooting.
  • Hearing and Speaking: Clear hearing and verbal communication skills are crucial for client and team member interactions. The ability to listen to equipment sounds, team discussions, and/or instructions is required.
  • Visual Acuity: Strong close visual acuity is needed to analyze blueprints, inspect machinery, and review detailed schematics or computer-aided designs.
  • Walking: Frequently walking throughout the manufacturing facility to consult with production teams, troubleshoot machinery, and monitor processes.
  • Manual Dexterity: Frequent use of hands and fingers for precision tasks, such as typing, operating small tools, or assembling components, grasping, feeling, and repetitive motion.
