Overview

ABOUT THE POSITION

VHB is looking for a GIS Analyst to join our team. The qualified candidate will contribute across multiple project teams and provide a range of GIS services relating to transportation, safety analysis and environmental projects.

This position can be based out of our Westbrook, ME; Bedford, NH; or Watertown, MA office locations.

Responsibilities

  • Performs standard analysis of spatial data using GIS technology (e.g., buffering, spatial overlays, distance calculations).
  • Researches and corrects problems with data using spatial and logical analyses.
  • Performs data searches and retrievals.
  • Extracts and organizes data.
  • Research source documents to resolve missing or conflicting data.
  • Converts GIS data to and from CAD software format.
  • Uses coordinate geometry to convert surveying data to GIS format.
  • Manages basic GIS tasks on GIS projects.
  • Creates and manages online tools using spatial data.
  • May serve as a database administrator for spatial data.
  • May review work products of other technical staff.
  • Participates in professional and personal development aligned with career goals.
  • Performs all job functions in compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations and VHB policies and procedures.

Skills and Attributes

  • Theoretical knowledge of the principles of geographic information science and GIS technology.
  • Beginner skill in the use of ArcGIS in its desktop and online forms.
  • Ability to develop and maintain online spatial data tools for non-GIS users.
  • Fundamental skill in applying GIS technology to solve analytical problems.
  • Fundamental knowledge of relational database management systems and the ability to use the SQL language.
  • Knowledge of the fundamentals of Global Positioning System and skill in the use of GPS technology for data collection.
  • Ability to utilize data transformation software as a means of importing and exporting data for use by the engineering department.
  • Ability to express meaning through cartography.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Team oriented with ability to perform multiple tasks independently in a timely manner and collaborate effectively and positively with coworkers.
  • Self-motivated, highly organized, and detail oriented.
  • Skills and knowledge must be commensurate with required experience and job level.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 0-2 years of experience in the use of GIS technology
  • 3-5 years of GIS experience preferred
  • BS in Geography, Engineering, Planning, or GIS
  • Desktop experience with Esri's ArcPro
  • Experience with ArcGIS Online, Enterprise, Field Maps, Survey123, Arcade and/or Python is preferred
