Position's Purpose and Essential Functions:

Responsible for the efficient and successful functioning of the Inpatient Rehabilitation Facility. Manages and directs the daily operations of the patient care unit to ensure the accomplishment of established departmental goals. Plans, delegates, and coordinates patient care to ensure high quality patient care is rendered. Performs the duties of a R.N. as needed. Ensures facility conformance with licensure, certification, and accreditation standards and requirements for Inpatient Rehabilitation Facility.

Position Insight:

  • Organizes daily processes for intake, admissions, assessments, treatments and discharge planning.
  • Delegates, schedules, and assigns responsibilities to staff in accordance with training, education, and experience.
  • Inspect unit regularity for compliance with unit policies, procedures, regulations, standards, and take corrective action as necessary.
  • Ensures nursing unit policies and procedures to comply with TJC, Medicare, OSHA, and other regulatory agency rules and regulations.
  • Prepares and analyzes reports, documents, payroll records and statistical data plans of overall progress.
Applicants Job Requirements Include:

Education:
  • If Registered Nurse (RN) - Required: Graduate of an accredited school of professional nursing. Preferred: Bachelor's degree.
  • If Physical Therapist (PT) - Required: Incumbent shall be graduate of registered PT approved Bachelor's degree program and shall have completed equivalent training, and shall meet practice requirements of appropriate State of Texas. Preferred: Master's degree or Doctorate.
  • If Occupational Therapist (OT) - Required: Graduate of an accredited Occupational Therapy Program. Required: B.S. degree minimum.
  • If Speech Language Pathologist (SLP): Required: Graduate of an accredited Speech Therapy program. Master’s Degree.
Experience:
  • If RN: Required: As an R.N.: Three (3) - five (5) years' experience, with a two (2) year minimum in Inpatient Rehabilitation Facility preferred. Preferred: Supervisory experience of two (2) years.
  • If PT: Required: Experience in working with an adult and geriatric population is necessary; education/experience serving people with physical disabilities is desirable.
  • If OT: Required: One (1) to two (2) years of staff OT experience. Preferred: Experience with PPS system a plus. Desirable characteristics include proficiency in written and verbal communication, proficiency with computerized documentation, and the ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with the public.
  • If SPL: Required: One (1) to two (2) years of staff SLP experience. Experience with PDPM (Pt Driven Payment Model) system and ability to articulate skilled criteria a plus. Preferred: Desirable characteristics include proficiency in written and verbal communication. Proficiency with computerized documentation, and the ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with the public. Preferred: Experience/Competency with Modified Barium Swallows needed.
Licenses/Certificates:
  • If RN: Required: Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Texas Board of Registered Nurse Examiners. Required: CPR within 30 days of hire. Required: Must have knowledge of the licensure and certification process, federal and state regulations and compliance with standards of care.
  • If PT: Required: Registered Physical Therapist in the State of Texas. Required: BLS within 30 days of hire.
  • If OT: Required: Licensed or eligible for Occupational Therapy license in the State of Texas. Required: BS within 30 days from hire.
  • If SLP: Required: Licensed or eligible for license in the State of Texas. Must hold or be eligible to obtain the Certificate of Competence (CCC) from the American Speech-Language and Hearing Association (ASHA). Required: BLS within 30 days of hire.
