Student Mentor Position Description

CONTRACT PERIOD

May 2024 - July 2024

COMPENSATION

This is an hourly, paid leadership position for the Summer 2024 term. On average, the mentor will work 3-5 hours per week, which includes attending all synchronous classes during the employment period. The hourly rate is currently $15.00/hour.

SUPERVISION

For training, support, and guidance with completing the position responsibilities, Mentors report to Emily Rosado-Solomon, Instructor of MOB3531. This position sits under Undergraduate Academic Affairs and the supervisor in Workday will be Sarah Rivera, Assistant, Undergraduate Academic Affairs.

POSITION SUMMARY

Mentors for MOB3531 will play an integral role in supporting students with internships throughout the semester. The focus of this leadership role is two-fold: (1) providing peer support for students' learning and integration in their respective internships, and (2) assistance with clerical administration of the class. Mentors will assist with growing student's professionalism skills and navigating proper communication between students and faculty.

These mentors are expected to develop productive mentor relationships with their students, alongside professional relationships with faculty members and members of the Undergraduate Academic Affairs' office. Mentors will be visible and positive influences for the students in their sections with their current knowledge and experience of organizational behavior and its relevance to summer internship experiences.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Track students' attendance and participation in synchronous classes
  • Record the extent to which students submit deliverables by relevant deadlines
  • Support current students
  • Help to identify resources for students as needed
  • Communication between faculty and students when needed
  • Encourage professionalism and communication
POSITION KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS & ABILITIES
  • Must have a cumulative GPA of 2.8 or higher at the time of applying and throughout employment.
  • Must have successfully completed at least one summer internship in a corporate setting
  • Ability to provide appropriate guidance to peers through active listening and open-ended questioning.
  • Ability to communicate between faculty and students when necessary.
  • Ability to direct students to different campus services as needed (Math, Writing and Speech Resource Center, Peer Tutoring Program, Resource Librarian, Health Services, CAPS, etc.)
