Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on Evaluation of Professional Personnel.

Compensation: According to Certified salary schedule - with step placement based on certification/license and credentials.

JOB SUMMARY:

Therapists are directly responsible to the building principal(s) for therapy, instruction, and supervision of students. The therapist's main responsibility is to lead students toward the fulfillment of their potential for intellectual, physical, social, and career development, with a focus on the appropriate use of speech and language skills.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Teachers shall attend promptly all meetings called by the principal or superintendent including ad-hoc committees as needed.
  2. Teachers shall devote themselves during school hours to the duties of their respective assignments and shall give careful attention to the instruction, supervision, discipline, manners, and habits of their students.
  3. Teachers are expected to become familiar with and follow Board policies, state laws, and administrative procedures. regulations and the district's course of study so that they may be able to carry these into effective operation.
  4. Implement the district-approved curriculum.
  5. Communicates with parents and school counselors on student progress.
  6. Create and implement a classroom discipline plan aligned with district expectations.
  7. Participate in professional development activities.
  8. Maintain accurate student records including attendance, grades and discipline.
  9. Participate as a member of an IEP team, 504 team or other student assistance team as requested.
  10. Implement special education plans such as 504 plans, individual education plans, and individual health plans.
  11. Adapt the curriculum/services to provide individual or small-group therapy and instruction to meet the needs of the individual pupils.
  12. Evaluates each pupil's growth in knowledge and skills as required by the individual student's plan (IEP, ISP, 504, PST). This includes maintaining detailed therapy records and documenting student growth toward annual goals with each individual plan.
  13. Therapists will be expected to develop and implement a therapy schedule, working collaboratively with other staff members to maximize student learning and the use of district resources.
  14. Identifies pupil needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping pupils solve health, attitude, and learning problems. This includes collaborating with classroom teachers to assure their understanding of and ability to implement components of individual student plans (IEP, ISP, 504, etc).
  15. Evaluates students as part of the RTI and IDEA Process - conducts assessments, composes written results, and participates in and/or facilitates meetings to report results (i.e., eligibility determinations, etc.).
  16. Provide therapy and bill Medicaid as designated through the District process.
  17. Other duties as assigned by the Administration.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

Master's degree or higher.

Appropriate Missouri teaching certification and a license issued by the State Board of Registration for the Healing Arts.

Read, analyze and interpret professional journals, Board policy, administrative procedures and forms and governmental regulations and guidance

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations using whole numbers, fractions, decimals, and percentages.

Ability to perform mathematical calculations to balance assigned budget items, invoices, bills, purchase orders, and other related items.

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, and/or schedule form.

Ability to solve problems and effectively manage time for efficient operations.

Ability to concentrate, think, read and learn is necessary to perform the essential job duties.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Must have knowledge of behavior management strategies for instructional programs.

Must have knowledge of crisis management techniques and be prepared to learn the restraint and seclusion techniques/policies adopted by the school district.

Demonstrate organizational ability and attention to detail.

Ability to provide assistance to the school community as necessary.

Ability to work independently.

Excellent human relation skills.
