Qualifications/Requirements:

Education and Licensure:

  • Completion of an accredited Physical Therapist Assistant program.
  • Valid and current state licensure as a Physical Therapist Assistant.
Clinical Experience:
  • Prior experience as a Licensed Physical Therapist Assistant, preferably in a skilled nursing facility or similar setting.
  • Experience in geriatric care, addressing functional limitations, mobility challenges, and rehabilitation needs.
Knowledge and Skills:
  • Proficiency in implementing treatment plans developed by Physical Therapists to address patients' goals and promote functional improvement.
  • Ability to perform therapeutic exercises, activities, and modalities under the supervision of a Physical Therapist.
  • Understanding of anatomy, physiology, and kinesiology related to physical therapy.
  • Knowledge of therapeutic techniques for improving mobility, balance, strength, and coordination.
  • Familiarity with gait training, transfer techniques, and the use of adaptive equipment.
  • Ability to document and report patients' progress and response to treatments accurately.
Communication and Interpersonal Skills:
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills to collaborate with patients, their families, and interdisciplinary team members.
  • Empathy and patience to work with individuals who may have physical challenges or limitations.
  • Collaborative approach to working with other healthcare professionals, such as Physical Therapists, nurses, occupational therapists, and speech-language pathologists.
Compliance and Documentation:
  • Adherence to legal, ethical, and regulatory guidelines for Physical Therapist Assistant practice.
  • Competence in maintaining accurate and timely documentation of treatment sessions, progress notes, and relevant patient information.
Continuing Education:
  • Willingness to engage in ongoing professional development and continuing education activities to stay updated with advancements in the field.
Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to stand, sit, and move around for extended periods to assist patients during therapy sessions.
  • Physical dexterity to facilitate therapeutic exercises, assist with transfers, and use equipment.
  • Capacity to lift and position patients as needed.
