Qualifications/Requirements:
Education and Licensure:
- Completion of an accredited Physical Therapist Assistant program.
- Valid and current state licensure as a Physical Therapist Assistant.
- Prior experience as a Licensed Physical Therapist Assistant, preferably in a skilled nursing facility or similar setting.
- Experience in geriatric care, addressing functional limitations, mobility challenges, and rehabilitation needs.
- Proficiency in implementing treatment plans developed by Physical Therapists to address patients' goals and promote functional improvement.
- Ability to perform therapeutic exercises, activities, and modalities under the supervision of a Physical Therapist.
- Understanding of anatomy, physiology, and kinesiology related to physical therapy.
- Knowledge of therapeutic techniques for improving mobility, balance, strength, and coordination.
- Familiarity with gait training, transfer techniques, and the use of adaptive equipment.
- Ability to document and report patients' progress and response to treatments accurately.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills to collaborate with patients, their families, and interdisciplinary team members.
- Empathy and patience to work with individuals who may have physical challenges or limitations.
- Collaborative approach to working with other healthcare professionals, such as Physical Therapists, nurses, occupational therapists, and speech-language pathologists.
- Adherence to legal, ethical, and regulatory guidelines for Physical Therapist Assistant practice.
- Competence in maintaining accurate and timely documentation of treatment sessions, progress notes, and relevant patient information.
- Willingness to engage in ongoing professional development and continuing education activities to stay updated with advancements in the field.
- Ability to stand, sit, and move around for extended periods to assist patients during therapy sessions.
- Physical dexterity to facilitate therapeutic exercises, assist with transfers, and use equipment.
- Capacity to lift and position patients as needed.
