QUALIFICATIONS: 1. Master's Degree in Speech Pathology/Communication Disorders from an accredited college or university.
2. Current South Carolina Teacher certification as a speech language therapist
3. Current South Carolina Speech Pathologist license on file.
4. Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology (CCC-SLP), or eligibility for certification.

IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: PRINCIPAL

JOB SUMMARY: The School-Based Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) plays a crucial role in assessing, diagnosing, and treating communication disorders in students within the educational setting. They work collaboratively with educators, parents, and other professionals to support students' academic success and social development. The primary goal of the SLP is to help students improve their communication skills, which may include speech, language, voice, and fluency disorders.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBLITIES:
1. Assessment:
  • Conduct comprehensive evaluations to assess students' communication abilities and identify speech and language disorders.
  • Administer standardized assessments, as well as informal measures, to gather relevant information about students' communication skills.
  • Analyze assessment data to determine the nature and severity of communication disorders and develop individualized treatment plans.
2. Treatment:
  • Develop and implement individualized treatment plans tailored to students' specific needs and goals.
  • Provide therapy sessions targeting speech production, language comprehension and expression, social communication, voice, fluency, and swallowing disorders.
  • Utilize evidence-based techniques and therapeutic interventions to facilitate communication skills development.
  • Collaborate with teachers and other school staff to integrate speech and language goals into the academic curriculum and classroom activities.
3. Progress Monitoring and Documentation:
  • Regularly monitor students' progress and adjust treatment plans as needed to ensure optimal outcomes.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of assessment results, treatment plans, progress notes, and other relevant records.
  • Communicate with parents/guardians regarding students' progress, goals, and recommended strategies for home practice.
4. Collaboration and Consultation:
  • Collaborate with teachers, special education staff, and other professionals to support students' overall academic and social-emotional development.
  • Participate in Individualized Education Program (IEP) meetings and contribute valuable input regarding students' speech and language needs and progress.
  • Provide consultation and guidance to teachers and staff on strategies for facilitating communication skills development in the classroom.
5. Professional Development:
  • Stay abreast of current research, best practices, and trends in the field of speech-language pathology.
  • Participate in professional development activities, workshops, conferences, and continuing education opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge.
  • Maintain licensure and certifications required by state regulations and professional organizations.
