Applicants have the opportunity to deliver prenatal and obstetric care, if desired. Faculty also supervise family medicine residents on a medical inpatient service at Sparrow Hospital. The Department of Family Medicine is a vibrant community of scholars, encompassing a range of disciplines, committed to medical student education, resident education, and community health. All faculty are engaged in medical student education, and opportunities for resident teaching are available. Physician faculty have opportunities to develop skills in research and scholarship through collaboration with experienced researchers. The Department collaborates with a statewide network of family medicine residency programs and supports medical student education across eight campuses, distributed throughout the state of Michigan, including rural and urban underserved communities. The College of Human Medicine is committed to high-quality medical education, and faculty have many opportunities to develop skills as an educator. The Department and College actively support faculty development. The College and University also offer multiple opportunities for collaboration in addressing community health problems, including a robust Public Health division and a nationally renowned University Extension program.
