Reporting to the Wellness Center, the Nurse Practitioner is a member of the Medical Service department and is responsible for clinical care of patients. The Nurse Practitioner will encourage a supportive and inclusive environment aligned with the values of the office and Wofford College.

The Nurse Practitioner is a 10-month, Part time position (20 hours/week, also working 130 hours in the 13 weeks of the summer). Normal office hours are 7:30am to 4:00 pm Monday through Friday; however, hours may vary widely to include working evening and weekends, contingent on campus activities, and special events.

JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Completes and records health histories of patients, inclusive of family history.
  • Performs examinations, including physical, developmental, and psychosocial assessments and screening of identified problems/threats to health and wellness.
  • Prescribes treatments/medications for identified nursing/medical needs, done within agreed-upon protocol guidelines in collaboration with the medical director or the patient's primary health care provider.
  • Refers patients to other health care specialists when the complexity of the nursing/medical needs
exceeds the scope of practice in Medical Services.
  • Provides in-depth health education, counseling, and monitoring of current health care issues, inclusive of but not limited to; family planning; STI's; common illnesses; injuries; immunizations; previously undiagnosed and/or stable chronic medical conditions; environmental hazards; medical regimens.
  • Compliance of OSHA bloodborne pathogen standards, CLIA, and DHEC regulations
  • Complies with HIPAA guidelines and with confidentiality of records.
  • Assists the Medical Services Director with educational programs, health fairs, and other educational venues.
  • Performs CLIA waived tests.
  • Maintains individual clinical competency in areas of responsibility.
  • Available to take call on weekends as needed.
  • Establishes and monitors standards for practice in Medical Services.
  • Represents Wofford College Wellness Center as needed on campus or in the community.
  • Other duties as deemed appropriate by the Director of Medical Services or the Director of the Wellness Center.
  • CPR Certification.
  • Maintains harmonious working relationship with co-workers, students, faculty, and staff.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
MN, MS, MSN or DNP as an Adult, College Health and/or Family Nurse Practitioner. Must be licensed in South Carolina.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Current SC or eligible for SC advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) with a MN, MS, MSN, or DNP as an Adult, College Health, and /or Family Nurse Practitioner.
  • CPR certification, preferred instructor certified (either ARC or AHA)
  • Prescriptive Authority in State of South Carolina with current SC and Federal DEA numbers
  • Must be able to handle stressful situations with sound judgment.
  • Must be able to work independently under general supervision of Director of Medical Services and within the guidelines of the State Board of Nursing
  • Should be able to lift at least 30 lbs.
  • Must be able to sit or stand for long periods of time; have good use of hands; good vision, hearing, and listening skills.
  • Should have protection against exposure to bloodborne.
  • Ability to communicate clearly both orally and in writing and cope with constant interruptions.
  • Knowledge and use of computer, telephone, sphygmomanometer, exam table, stethoscope, otoscope, and other medical equipment and supplies as needed.
  • Be willing and able to learn current EMR system use in Wofford Wellness Center
  • Work with collaborating physicians regarding protocols for practice.
