Position Summary: Senior Counselors deliver clinical services, consultation, outreach and preventive programs that address the psychological and behavioral needs of the student population. Positions are full-time 12-month or with an 11-month obligation available. Services include: diagnostic assessment and evaluation; evidence-based individual, couples, and group psychotherapy, case management; crisis and emergency intervention, referrals to outside providers, workshops, presentations, and other outreach activities. Expectations include working as part of a multidisciplinary team providing mental health treatment, consultation, crisis counseling and prevention services in the areas of mental health. Major Responsibilities: Major Responsibilities: Provide individual and group counseling to students Conduct initial assessments Make appropriate referrals to psychiatric and other campus and community personnel Provide outreach and consultation to campus and larger community, including faculty, staff, families, students and other stakeholders Participate in annual orientation and in training for student staff Provide crisis intervention as needed Supervise trainees as needed Follow current ethical and legal guidelines to assure standards of practice Maintain current license in field Job Requirements: Effective interpersonal and communication skills Ability to work at a fast pace and handle spontaneous work demands Commitment to and interest in working with a diverse student population and ability to demonstrate multicultural competence Consistently demonstrate knowledge and skills in time-limited psychotherapy Ability to work cooperatively in a multidisciplinary team environment Computer literacy Required Qualifications: A master’s degree in counseling, psychology or social work Professional license to practice and use the professional title in New York State of Licensed Mental Health Counselor ( LMHC ), Licensed Clinical Social Worker ( LCSW ) or Licensed Psychologist (LP). (Note: within 6 months of appointment may be considered if currently licensed in another state); At least three years of clinical experience providing short-term mental health treatment or referral for clients for LMHC , LCSW or LP applicants; LMSW applicants with six years of clinical experience providing mental health treatment will also be considered. At least one year of experience in crisis intervention and consultation At least one year of experience in providing outreach or psycho-educational programming, particularly with under-served and vulnerable populations. Preferred Qualifications: Doctoral degree in counseling or clinical psychology from an APA accredited program and who are fully licensed as a psychologist in the State of New York within six months of hire (e.g., already licensed in another state); One year, full-time equivalent, APA approved internship in a college counseling center; Recent college or university counseling center staff experience Evidence of computer literacy Experience in providing clinical supervision Experience working with and serving diverse populations.
