Position: IBMi DBA / Database Administrator
Key Responsibilities :
- Database Management : Install, configure, and maintain IBM i-based databases (DB2 for i, etc.) and ensure they are optimized for performance.
- Backup and Recovery : Implement and maintain backup and disaster recovery strategies for IBM i-based databases.
- Performance Tuning : Continuously monitor and optimize the performance of IBM i database systems, including query optimization, indexing, and system resources management.
- Security and Compliance : Implement security measures to protect sensitive data, including user access control, auditing, and encryption. Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
- System Upgrades : Plan and execute database upgrades and patches on IBM i platforms with minimal disruption to business operations.
- Troubleshooting : Diagnose and resolve database-related issues, including system performance, connectivity, and integrity issues.
- Database Maintenance : Perform regular database maintenance tasks, including reorganization, index rebuilds, and data archiving.
- Collaboration : Work with developers to design and optimize database schemas, stored procedures, and queries. Assist in database-related development and deployment tasks.
- Documentation : Maintain comprehensive documentation related to database configurations, procedures, and policies.
- Proven experience as a Database Administrator, specifically with IBM i (AS/400) and DB2 for i.
- In-depth knowledge of IBM i operating system (OS/400), database management, and tools like IBM Navigator for i, STRSQL, etc.
- Expertise in database performance tuning, backup, recovery, and security.
- Strong understanding of SQL and relational database management principles.
- Experience with IBM i system hardware, memory, and storage configurations.
- Familiarity with IBM i job management, work management, and system resources.
- Strong problem-solving, troubleshooting, and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
- Knowledge of industry best practices and regulatory compliance standards related to database management.
- IBM i Certifications (e.g., IBM Certified Database Administrator - DB2 for i).
- Experience with other database technologies (e.g., MySQL, Oracle) is a plus.
- Familiarity with IBM Power Systems hardware.
- Familiarity with Cloud Computing, Nodejs, any other IBM MDM tools (Informatica).
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent work experience).
- 10+ years of experience as a Database Administrator, with a focus on IBM i systems and DB2 for i.
