Mechanical Design Engineer

Job Description
We are currently seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join our team. This individual will play a key role in our Robotic and Automated Systems Engineering team with involvement in all aspects of the mechanical hardware design for company projects. Also will play a role as a checker.

The essential job functions for this position are:
  • Create new designs required for robotic and automated systems
  • Perform cost analysis for new or existing designs
  • Create/revise drawings - AutoCAD or hand mark ups, layouts or verbal instruction
  • Select raw material, calculate weight and volume
  • Perform calculations (i.e. center of gravity, bend and stress moments)
  • Ensure mechanical fit of all components in a given assembly
  • Create/maintain and release data/drawings and engineering documentation
  • Self-check completed assignments and cross check co-workers completed assignments
  • Work with manufacturing personnel to insure manufacturability of product
  • ssist with determining project scope based on customer requirements
  • Travel to customer facility to perform field checks and for engineering reviews
  • Write specifications as required for projects
  • Work with purchasing staff to order project materials
  • Determine mechanical, structural, and pneumatic designs based on project requirements
  • Use 2D and 3D CAD software to create drawing packages for project designs
  • Create bill of materials for each mechanical assembly
  • ssist quoting staff with determining requirements and costs for potential projects
  • Support shop and field technicians to ensure that equipment is installed correctly
  • Update drawings based on "as built" markups from field personnel

Education
- Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or Equivalent Work Experience

Minimum Qualifications
Candidates for this position must possess all of the following qualifications:
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in manufacturing / engineering environment
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in the mechanical design of robotic or automated systems
  • Strong ability to identify issues and problems, generate solutions and choose appropriate alternatives using root cause analysis; resourcefulness
  • Strong mechanical skills; ability to read and develop pneumatic / fluid schematics and diagrams
  • Familiar with robotic application equipment and processes
  • Hands-on experienced with mechanical equipment; measurement tools and techniques
  • Efficient using 2D / 3D CAD (AutoCAD and SolidWorks) to generate mechanical system packages
  • Familiar with industrial machinery design
  • Understanding of international standards (RIA/ANSI, IEC, ISO, NFPA, NEC, UL)
  • Understanding of Stellantis, Ford, and GM standards and specifications
  • Knowledge of metal and non-ferrous materials and their properties
  • Knowledge of U.S. Customary system (inches) and SI system (Metric)
  • Knowledge of various ANSI and ISO Engineering and drafting standards
  • Familiarity with manufacturing practices
  • Possess a solid understanding of design concepts, practices & procedures

  • Manage technical solutions to minimize costs while maintaining reliability

  • Project tasks completed on schedule and under budget, to specifications and checked for accuracy
  • Knowledge in mechanical designs for robotic automation systems (FANUC, ABB, Yaskawa / Motoman, Durr, and/or Kawasaki robots)

  • Willingness to travel to plant sites for engineering design details.

  • Experience with industrial control systems, specifically paint/dispense and automation applications
  • Experience with engineering retrofit systems
  • Experience working on new product developments
  • Extensive design of automation systems using FANUC robots
