This is a hybrid role with base in Wurtland, KY.

Purpose:

This role is responsible to work to ensure the financial integrity of the Vesuvius business unit, including an accurate and timely close (both P&L and B/S). Accountable for ongoing development and maintenance of product costs; partner with operations to trace costs back to underlying business activities. Support business as partner to Plant Manager to drive plant savings.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage the financial accounts of the entity, including monthly accruals, balance sheet reconciliations and variance analysis. Recommend corrective actions to management based on analysis.
  • Establish and maintain an environment of controls and compliance in line with Vesuvius standards.
  • Analyze manufacturing variances to understand financial performance in cooperation with operations team and identify improvement opportunities.
  • Manage and update standard costs in local ERP system; costing support will include actual products as well as new product inquiries.
  • Support and provide input into planning, budgeting and forecasting processes.
  • Produce ad hoc reports as required to enable decision making.
  • Oversee inventory valuation and reconciliation.
  • Conduct physical inventory counts and reconcile with the accounting system.
  • Identify cost reduction opportunities and provide recommendations for improvement.
  • Work with other departments to streamline processes and improve cost efficiency.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant business or technical field.
  • 3+ years of experience with financial controls in a manufacturing setting.
  • 5+ years of experience with cost accounting in a manufacturing setting.
  • Working knowledge of MS Office with strength in MS Excel.
  • Detail oriented and organized with strong analytical ability.
  • Ability to hit deadlines and work under time constraints.
  • Willingness to collaborate with functions outside of finance.
  • Prior work with ERP software preferred; JD Edwards a plus.
  • Geared toward continuous improvement and high performing teams.
  • Ability to communicate complex topics in a concise fashion.


The Cost Accountant reports to the Head of Margin Analysis AR. The specific salary offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors including experience, education and location.
