Job Description

SUMMARY:Under the direction of the Clinical Director , theSenior Counselor isresponsible for assisting the Director in the daily operation standards of the unit. Directly responsible for the treatment of clients on his/her caseload. Will be responsible for maintaining unit standards in the absence of the Director.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Assessing the counseling needs of the clients.
  2. Assessing clients using the ASI or other standardized clinical interview tool, and diagnosing clients for substance use disorder using the DSM-5
  3. Determining the appropriate level of care according to ASAM Criteria.
  4. Obtaining previous records that are relevant to the current treatment episode.
  5. Unless clinically contraindicated, collaborating with the client to develop a written treatment plan that includes goals and measurable objectives, and is client-centered, recovery oriented.Develop, monitor and provide the client and treatment team a written schedule to update each client treatment plan(s) in order to ensure clients' needs are met.
  6. Providing the substance use counseling services specified in the client treatment plan.
  7. Reviewing clients throughout the treatment episode according to the ASAM Criteria, to determine the need for continued services, transfer, or discharge/transfer.
  8. Reviewing and, where necessary, revising the client treatment plan to address ongoing problems.
  9. Developing a client discharge/transfer plan to ensure movement to the appropriate levels of care.
  10. Contact, case consultation if necessary, and coordination with referral sources, (for example, mental health treatment providers, criminal justice agencies, schools, employers, DCPP).
  11. Participating as a member of a multidisciplinary team for assigned clients.
  12. Providing active case consultation.
  13. Documenting all counseling and education services, assessments, reassessments, referrals and follow-up in the client's clinical record, and providing appropriate signatures and dating of such entries, including those made in electronic records.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Responsible for assisting and overseeing the daily activities of the unit and reporting to clinical supervisor on a daily basis for consultation.
  2. Assists with the coordination of caseload assignments.
  3. Assists and conducts orientation of new clients to the Out patient program.
  4. Conduct and documents clinical team meetings and staff meetings.
  5. Assists with the orientation of new staff in designated areas and aspects of treatment within the Agency.
  6. Conduct orientation for new clients admitted into the program.
  7. Assists with SMART documentation and familiarity for service input and other entry level trainings.
  8. Maintains a caseload minimum of fifteen (15) clients with emphasis placed on individual and group counseling, didactics, referral systems and use of DSM and LOC.
  9. Assists Supervisor with peer and chart reviews, and assuring HIPPA regulations are adhered to.
  10. Familiarize with various reporting requirements, and Attachment A and other grant obligations to assist staff with documentation and review.
  11. Responsible for completing the ASI, TPR and progress notes in accordance with MAT/IOP policies and grant requirements.
  12. Develops realistic treatment plans based on relevant information gathered from all life areas of caseload clients within 30 days of admission with appropriate goals, objectives and intervention, including previous treatment records.
  13. Responsible for assisting with counselor’s submission of appropriate medical referrals to include dose adjustments, psychiatric appointments and alternative levels of care as assessed by multidisciplinary team and respective staff.
  14. Assists with facilitating the Multidisciplinary team when assigned in addition to coordinating the scheduling of clients for presentation.
  15. Provides input on staff annual evaluations.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
  1. Ability to gather relevant history from client regarding drug use using appropriate interview techniques.
  2. Demonstrate the ability to deliver service in a way that is responsive, respectful, caring and helpful while maintaining confidentiality.
  3. Ability to establish and maintain a positive and cooperative working relationship with all employees.
  4. Capable of explaining to the client the rationale for the use of assessment techniques in order to facilitate understanding.
  5. Capable of developing a diagnostic evaluation of the client’s substance use and any coexisting conditions based on the results of all assessments in order to provide an integrated approach to treatment planning based on the client’s strengths, weaknesses and identified problems and needs
  6. Ability to identify and rank problems based on individual client needs in the written treatment plan. Capable of formulating agreed upon immediate and long-term goals using behavioral terms in the written treatment plan.
  7. Ability to identify the treatment methods and resources to be utilized as appropriate for the individual client.
  8. Knowledgeable in techniques to assist the client, group and family in examining the client’s behavior. Ability to be respectful of diverse cultures, ethnic, and religious backgrounds.
  9. Capable of recognizing the elements of the client crisis and implementing an immediate course of action appropriate to the crisis.
  10. Knowledgeable in methadone information and capable of presenting to the client through formal and/or informal processes.
  11. Ability to match client needs and/or problems to appropriate resources, and capable of coordinating services for client care.
  12. Capable of preparing reports and relevant records integrating available information to facilitate the continuum of care.
  13. Knowledge of client HIPPA confidentiality, grievance, and appeals process and educating client in use of such.

LCADC with Masters in related field
