GENERAL DEFINITION AND CONDITIONS OF WORK:

Performs responsible clerical, customer service duties and semiskilled work in the Parks and Recreation Department. Also may be used as an internship and learning position.
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS:

Under general supervision of the Special Events and Programs Coordinator an employee in this class performs responsible and semiskilled work involving the provision of customer service in the leisure field; assists with coordination and service delivery during special events and programs; learns about parks and recreation administration, collection of fees, general maintenance and operations of concessions stand and other similar park facilities; develops and distributes promotional materials and learn about the City of Kannapolis's marketing plan; assists with sponsorship and grant requests and acquisitions; works with the parks division; does related work as required. Learning opportunities exist in all aspects of the parks and recreation field.

Typical Qualifications
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

General knowledge of parks and recreation; ability to understand and follow oral and written directions; ability to get along well with others; ability to work unusual hours during the summer months.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

All prospective interns must be students enrolled and majoring in Parks and Recreation or a related field at an accredited school or university. Candidates may be required to submit proof of student enrollment. Experience working with the public highly desired and experience using computers, specifically Windows applications are a plus. This position requires working nights, weekends and some holiday hours.

JOB RELATED PHYSICAL ACTIVITY REQUIREMENTS:This is work requiring the exertion of up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects; work requires reaching, walking, stooping, crouching, standing, lifting, fingering, grasping, and repetitive motions; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for preparing and analyzing written or computer data, operation of machines, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities; the worker is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions. Short term exposure to loud music exceeding 85 dBA could be reasonably anticipated requiring the use of hearing protection.
Benefits for part time employees are limited based on part time status.
