Position Summary
Staff Nurse II is accountable for the delivery of patient care utilizing the Nursing Process and Relationship-Based Care model as the framework. The Staff Nurse II provides direct patient care and takes initiative to improve patient outcomes by integrating Shared Leadership, Evidence Based Practice, Relationship Based Care and standards of nursing excellence into clinical practice. Through therapeutic relationships with patients, families, self and colleagues, the Staff Nurse II functions as an interdisciplinary team member who provides quality patient care and fulfills unit and organizational goals. Staff Nurse II facilitates educational development of staff, leads unit-based quality improvement initiatives and acts as a professional and clinical role model and educational resource for staff. Staff Nurse II is actively engaged in Shared Leadership through membership on a governing council.

Duties & Responsibilities

Utilize the nursing process by demonstrating appropriate assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of the patient's care._x000d_ Assess the patient, collect and document the patient's current health status and medical history. Make_x000d_accurate and ongoing assessment of patient's status and respond appropriately. Plan/Implement; set priorities for nursing action in a logical sequence according to patient's needs and_x000d_formulate a plan of care by the appropriate selection of Nurse Practice Standards. Set priorities for nursing action in a logical sequence to ensure all required nursing duties are completed within allotted work schedule. Document accurate and ongoing assessment of patient status. Communicate with the medical provider regarding patient needs, the nursing assessments and_x000d_recommendations on a daily, as needed basis. Collaborate with other nurses, juvenile detention staff, and health team members to ensure the patient's well being. Act as liaison to keep guardian(s) informed of pertinent medical information. Teach patient appropriate health information as directed by a provider. Administer medications according to policy and procedure. Observe and document patient's response to pertinent medications. Demonstrate ability and appropriate technical skills when administering treatments and procedures in_x000d_accordance with provider's orders and policy and procedure. Demonstrate necessary skills and knowledge to provide care for patients according to policy and procedure. Demonstrate ability to handle emergency situations in a prompt, precise and professional manner. Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications
  1. Licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse in Illinois with the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation, Division of Professional Regulation.
  2. One year of RN experience.
  3. Current AHA BLS/CPR and other required unit specific certifications.
  4. Effective communication skills (oral and written) that facilitate therapeutic relationships between patients, family, and health care providers.
  5. Intermediate computer skills with the ability to become proficient in the Electronic Health Record (EHR) with on-the-job training.
  6. Excellent attendance, interpersonal skills and work history required.
