Scrap Yard Truck Driver

Harrison Steel has an opening on 1st shift for a scrap yard position to haul purchased scrap metal and internal steel from various areas of the plant to the melting department. The position will operate various equipment, including but not limited to large manual trucks, outside cranes, semi weight station, radiation detector, and is responsible for keeping different kinds of scrap metal separated.

Qualifications and Skills

• Basic math & reading skills
• Makes timely decisions
• Demonstrates accuracy and thoroughness
• Works safely and observes all safety procedures
• Valid state issued driver's license preferred
• Distinguish colors differentiating scrap including but not limited to red, green, purple, orange, and yellow

Work Environment:

The employee regularly work near moving mechanical parts; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals and vibration. Also exposure to outdoor weather conditions, non-weather related extreme cold, water and humidity, and the risk of electrical shock. The employee occasionally works in high, precarious places. The usual noise level is very loud. Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and be able to sit for long periods of time as well as climb in and out of large industrial vehicles.
