The Surgical Services team at Minneola Healthcare currently supports two general surgeons as well as a fellowship trained interventional pain management specialist treating acute and chronic pain with non-surgical intervention.
As an essential member of our healthcare facility, the OR Circulating Nurse plays a crucial role in ensuring the safety, well-being, and comfort of patients undergoing surgical procedures. If you are a compassionate, detail-oriented, and a skilled nurse with a passion for surgical care, we encourage you to apply for this position. This is a part time position, but can grow to be full time by working the floor on non-surgery days.
Responsibilities:
- Preoperative Assessment:
- Verify patient identity, surgical site, and procedure to prevent any discrepancies.
- Collaborate with the surgical team to ensure patient's readiness for surgery.
- Preparation and Setup:
- Ensure proper functioning of equipment and troubleshoot any issues.
- Maintain a sterile environment in the OR and adhere to infection control protocols.
- Patient Advocacy:
- Address questions, concerns, and provide emotional support to patients and their families.
- Safeguard patient confidentiality and privacy.
- Surgical Assistance:
- Maintain a sterile field and ensure aseptic technique is followed at all times.
- Monitor and document vital signs, anesthesia administration, and surgical counts.
- Turnover the operating room for the next case and helping clean and put away instruments and surgical equipment.
- Documentation:
- Document the surgical procedure, any unexpected events, and the patient's condition throughout the operation.
- Safety and Infection Control:
- Assist in maintaining a clean and organized OR environment.
- Report any safety concerns or incidents to the appropriate personnel.
- Postoperative Care:
- Assist in transferring patients to the post-anesthesia care unit (PACU) and provide handover to PACU staff.
- Monitor and assess postoperative patients for complications and respond appropriately.
- Educate patients and families on postoperative care and follow-up instructions.
Qualifications:
- Current RN (Registered Nurse) license in the state of Kansas.
- BLS (Basic Life Support) and ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certifications.
- Knowledge of surgical procedures, instrumentation, and aseptic technique.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and critical thinking skills.
- Ability to work well in a fast-paced and high-pressure environment.
- Attention to detail, organizational skills, and commitment to patient safety.
The OR team also runs the sterile processing department, this position would be expected to help out in there when needed, to clean, package, and sterilize instruments for the surgery department as well as package and sterilize instruments for all other departments in the organization.
