Reporting to the Director, Dental Services, the General Dentist is responsible for providing comprehensive and appropriate dental care and treatment to patients. The General Dentist will provide supervision to dental assistants and dental hygienists as assigned and will personally provide care to patients, working collaboratively with all staff in an integrated care environment.

- Directly affect improvements in patient well-being through accurate and timely creation and delivery of competent, efficient, high quality dental care that meets or exceeds: the needs and satisfaction of all patients served; all organizational and professional standards; all clinical outcomes and related expectations; all productivity standards, goals, and expectations; and all financial metrics.
- Directly affect improvements in patient well-being through accurate and timely diagnosis and delivery of high-quality dental treatment. Ensure the delivery of competent, accurate, dental care and treatment to all patients as assigned.
- Provide leadership and direction to other dental clinic staff. Effect overall clinic results. Meet or exceed all measurable standards of care, including overall clinical, quality, and productivity goals.
- Ensure accuracy, efficiency, and appropriate confidentiality with patient charting and related recordkeeping and administrative functions as assigned.
- Ensure all electronic patient records, charts, and all related documentation are maintained current and consistent with best practices in the dental care field, as well as within all relevant laws and regulations. Ensure the organization meets or exceeds all governmental, regulatory and accreditation standards in all areas of day-to-day operations.
- Develop and ensure favorable relationships with all patients and their families. Ensure all patient services are delivered in a caring and professional manner.
- Develop and ensure favorable relationships with vendors, contractors and payor sources.
- Develop and ensure ongoing, positive relationships and collaboration with other dentists and dental staff members. Ensure the success of each clinic operation through collaborative support and working relationships with all clinic operations staff.
- Manage and ensure favorable relationships with the Bureau of Primary Health, HRSA, NACHC, NNOHA, local and state health departments, other accreditation and related resources vital to the organization's continued success.
- Establish positive working relationships with area dental offices, dentists, hospitals, clinics, physicians and specialists, regulatory bodies and related organizations. Ensure the organization maintains a strong provider and referral network of dental offices, dentists, hospitals, physicians, and ancillary providers able to meet the medical and dental care needs of patients served. Actively participate in community dental programs.
- Solve problems and make critical patient and/or management decisions supported by substantial financial analysis, clinical knowledge, and critical data-based decision making.
- Personally provide dental services to patients. May be required to perform telehealth services as determined by Signature Health.
- Provide routine and emergency dental services, including diagnosis and treatment plans, general restorative procedures, crown and bridge construction, removable prosthetics, uncomplicated endodontics and minor oral surgery.
- Perform additional services including but not limited to initiate and interpret x-ray and lab studies, administer and prescribe anesthetics and medications, teach and train patients and staff on illness prevention, conduct follow-up patient care and assist with in-service and on-going training of clinic staff.
- Assist in reviewing clinic productivity, scheduling procedures, and establishing guidelines for care and treatment.
- Exercise professional judgment in the performance of services provided consistent with the organization's policies and the standards of the dental profession.
- Perform assigned dental tasks using high level of skills and ability.
- Utilize computers for data entry and information retrieval with proficiency.
- Utilize and monitor effectiveness and efficiency of all equipment and supplies used in the delivery of services.
- Communicate frequently with others in verbal and written communication format.
- Implement and evaluate operational and administrative processes.
KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE
- Valid unencumbered D.D.S. or D.M.D. in the state of Ohio required.
- Additional postgraduate advanced training preferred.
- Experience managing or practicing in a community health or federally qualified health center strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated expertise related to trends and issues, laws and regulations associated with the delivery of oral health services.
- Demonstrated success in establishing a wide range of collaborative business and professional relationships.
- Demonstrated success in developing, motivating and directing high performing teams.
- Capacity to envision and develop clinical programs consistent with clinic's mission and a publicly operated care delivery system.
- Demonstrated knowledge of quality assurance and risk management standards and processes.
- Familiarity and experience with standards and processes established by JCAHO, CMS, OSHA, CDC, ADA and regulatory entities.
- Knowledge of federal regulations governing dental care clinical staff.
- Knowledge of credentialing process, delineation of clinical privileges and peer review for dental staff.
- Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office/clinical work environment.
- While hours of operation are generally standard, flexibility to work evenings and extended hours may be required.
- Requires periods of sitting, standing, telephone, and computer work.
- Hearing: adequate to hear clients or patients in person, over the telephone or through telehealth technology.
- Speaking: adequate to speak to clients or patients in person, over the telephone or through telehealth technology.
- Vision: Visual acuity adequate to perform job duties, including reading information from printed sources and computer screens.
- Physical effort required: occasional lifting and carrying items weighing up to 15 pounds, unassisted.
- Possible exposure to blood borne pathogens while performing job duties.
- Frequent bending, reaching, and repetitive hand movements, standing, walking, squatting and sitting, with some lifting, pushing and pulling exerted regularly throughout a regular workday.
- Sufficient dexterity to operate a PC and other office equipment.
