Job Summary

The Registered Nurse (RN) will report directly to the Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) and take assignments delegated by the Nurse House Supervisor. The RN is responsible for independently implementing the nursing process to provide safe, effective, and individualized care to patients in various hospital nursing departments, including Emergency, Medical Surgical/Swing Bed, and Skilled Nursing departments. The RN will be expected to provide supplemental staffing and break relief as needed, covering various departments where they are trained and competent to work. This position requires the ability to work across departments and provide care to patients of all ages, from newborns to adults (0-120 years old), ensuring the delivery of age-appropriate care.

Key Responsibilities

Patient Care:
  • Implement the nursing process, including assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care.
  • Provide safe, effective, and individualized nursing care in assigned hospital departments.
  • Administer medications, treatments, and procedures according to the hospital's policies and procedures.
  • Maintain patient comfort and safety, ensuring that the environment supports optimal healing.
  • Supplemental Staffing & Break Relief:
  • Provide break relief and staffing coverage to RNs in the Emergency, Medical Surgical/Swing Bed, and Skilled Nursing departments.
  • Work flexibly and autonomously to move between departments as required by staffing needs.
Competency & Training:
  • Maintain and document required competency levels for each department and ensure the delivery of care at the expected standard.
  • Actively participate in ongoing training and education to ensure competency in multiple hospital departments.
Collaboration & Communication:
  • Work collaboratively with interdisciplinary teams to ensure continuity of care and optimize patient outcomes.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare providers.
Documentation:
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the electronic health record (EHR) system.
  • Document patient assessments, care plans, and outcomes in accordance with hospital policies and regulatory standards.
Required Qualifications

Education:
  • Valid and current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of California.
Experience:
  1. Minimum of one year of acute care nursing experience within the past two years.
  2. At least six months of recent experience in an Emergency or Critical Care setting is required.

Certifications:
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification for healthcare providers (American Heart Association).
  • Current Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.
  • Current Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification.
Preferred Qualifications

Language Skills:
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred, but not required.
Additional Experience:
  • Experience in multiple clinical areas (Emergency, Medical Surgical, Critical Care) is preferred.
Licensing & Certification Requirements
  • Current unencumbered California Registered Nurse (RN) license.
  • Current American Heart Association BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications.
