Description

JOB SUMMARY: The Clinical Education Instructor of Surgical Services under the collaboration and direction of the Director of Surgical Services oversees the development and delivery of educational opportunities that are directly related to clinical staff. This includes effective implementation of new associate orientation, cross training, assessment of educational needs, developing teaching programs, Meditech training, coordination of ongoing clinical education, responsible for facilitating student externships, annual education, annual competencies and department policy review. The Clinical Education Instructor will promote excellence in clinical care, be knowledgeable of state-of-the-art equipment, and able to teach adult learners. They will be a resource, and role model for staff members. Through direct observation and participation in patient and family care, the Clinical Education Instructor will assess, plan, implement and evaluate strategies to maintain excellent quality in patient care. They will be an active participant in quality improvement projects to promote improved nursing-sensitive, patient outcomes.

QUALIFICATIONS:

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Responsible for general clinical education including assisting department with programs and in services, designing, conducting, and tracking CBL's and training sessions, and providing results of program evaluations.
  • Responsible for all phases of Department Orientation including: planning, schedule preparation, conducting sessions, assuring all elements are completed, and documentation is recorded and is electronically filed.
  • Works in collaboration with the Clinical Education Specialist to maintains course records in Net Learning Designs CBL's for Net Learning and plans simulation learning and drills
  • Actively participates on teams/committees for improving clinical care and clinical equipment.
  • Provides oversite and mentorship to the onboarding of new associates.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and technical skill necessary for providing competent, comprehensive and age-specific patient care.
  • Serves as a professional role model for others. Demonstrates ability to teach/instruct patients, families and/or colleagues.
  • Demonstrates computer and keyboarding skills necessary to provide a complete and accurate electronic medical record.
  • Utilizes effective verbal, non-verbal and written forms of communication. Works effectively with others consistently demonstrating tact, discretion, diplomacy and a commitment to teamwork and Patients First.

Position Requirements

CERTIFICATION/LICENSE:
    • Registered Nurse (RN)
ADDITIONAL LICENSURE/CREDENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:
    • Registered Nurse, graduate from an accredited nursing school.
    • Masters of Science, Nursing.
ADDITIONAL EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
  • RN with 5 years of clinical practice and 2-3 years of experience in education or adult learning principles. Must have previous circulating, scrubbing, SDS and PACU experience.
  • Mandatory Continuing Education: Customer Service, Fire and Safety, Corporate Compliance (including Confidentiality), Infection Control, and education required by regulatory, accreditation bodies, scope of practice, and/or Hancock Regional Hospital.
