Job Summary

Seeking a Networking Support Professional to provide first-level Smart Hands support to second and third-level support teams. This role involves maintaining network environments, supporting incident resolution, and assisting with hardware installations and configuration in data centers. The successful candidate will have experience in data center operations, network cabling, and troubleshooting.

Key Responsibilities
  • Incident Support: Collaborate with remote Level 2/3 teams to resolve outages and issues, including replacing cabling and hardware components.
  • Service Request Support: Work with remote Network Support Teams to install hardware or patch cables for new customer services.
  • Hardware Installation: Assist in the installation of network and server equipment, including rack & stack, cable management, and patch lead installation.
  • Testing and Configuration: Provide console access to remote teams for configuration and test connectivity after installation and configuration.
  • Data Center Support: Assist with material control, ensure all required materials are available, and complete work within customer SLAs.
  • Cabling Installation: Perform installation and service of low-voltage cabling, fiber optic cabling, and related systems (Cat5, Cat6, Fiber Optic).
  • Maintenance and Troubleshooting: Diagnose and troubleshoot cabling systems and replace/repair as necessary.
  • Hardware Handling: Receive shipments, validate purchase orders, unbox materials, and manage equipment logistics in the data center.
  • Vendor Support: Provide escort services for vendors and technicians on-site.
Qualifications
  • Education: Associate or bachelor's degree or equivalent experience required.
  • Experience:
    • 4+ years in Site Support or Infrastructure Technician roles.
    • 3+ years in data centers, labs, or server room environments.
    • Experience in network cabling, rack & stack, and providing basic configuration support for networking or server devices.
  • Certifications:
    • Belden Certified Cable Installer
    • SYSTIMAX Installation and Maintenance
    • Corning Certified Fiber Installer
    • Panduit Certifications

  • Structured Network Cabling:
    • Copper (Cat5, Cat5e, Cat6, RJ45 connectors)
    • Fiber (Multimode, Single Mode, ST, SC, LC connectors)
  • Wi-Fi Hardware:
    • Wireless LAN Controllers
    • Wireless Access Points
  • Networking:
    • IP Addressing, Layer 2 VLANs
  • Ethernet Switching Hardware:
    • Chassis, Supervisor, Line Cards, Power Supplies, Transceiver Types (SX, LX, SR, LR)
  • Cable Troubleshooting:
    • Fluke Testers (Copper - Wire Map, Link Test; Fiber - OTDR Testing)
    • Fluke Aircheck (Wireless Testing)
Competencies
  • Proven ability to install cable pathways and supports (ladder, trays).
  • Knowledge of cabling infrastructure terminology and systems (telecom, data, security, wireless).
  • Mechanical aptitude, including the ability to read cable matrix blueprints and electrical requirement documents.
  • Ability to install, remove, and manage network infrastructure components (cabling, switches, pathway systems).
Essential Functions
  • Perform low-voltage cabling installations and maintenance (Category 5, Cat 6, Fiber Optic, etc.).
  • Assist with material control to ensure all required materials are available.
  • Adhere to safety and quality guidelines during installations.
  • Ensure tickets are addressed within SLAs and provide proactive issue resolution.
  • Assist in data center operations and infrastructure landing within SLAs.
Other Related Tasks
  • Receive, unbox, and validate hardware shipments.
  • Move and install equipment, including server racks, cables, and network devices.
  • Perform cable management, including scanning, labeling, and inventory control.
  • Handle e-waste disposal and ensure proper handling of spare parts inventory.
  • Provide vendor support and work on tasks from the Service Now ticketing system.
Physical Requirements and Additional Information
  • Ability to work in hot, enclosed environments (e.g., data center hot aisles).
  • Must be able to lift up to 35 lbs. independently and perform work at elevated heights (e.g., using ladders).
  • Must be willing to travel between buildings using personal transportation.
  • Ability to perform physical tasks, including walking, sitting, standing, crawling, or kneeling for extended periods.
  • Excellent communication skills (both verbal and written) and customer service abilities.
