Wing offers drone delivery as a safe, fast, and sustainable solution for last mile logistics. Consumer appetites for on-demand services are increasing, but current delivery methods are inefficient, costly, and contribute to road accidents and air pollution. Wing's fleet of highly automated delivery drones can transport small packages directly from businesses to homes on-demand, in minutes. We design, build, and operate our aircraft, and offer drone delivery services on three continents. Our technology is designed to be easy to integrate into existing delivery and logistics networks, offering a scalable drone delivery solution for a broad range of businesses. Wing is a part of Google's parent company, Alphabet, and our mission is to create the preferred means of delivery for the planet. To do this, we must build a workforce that's representative of the global communities that we serve. If you're ready to do the greatest work of your life, come join us.
About the Role:
Wing is looking for a Staff Design Reliability Engineer to join our Design for Excellence (DFX) team based in Palo Alto, California. We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Design Test SME to be a key contributor in ensuring the reliability and robustness of our hardware designs. In this role, you will leverage your deep understanding of testing methodologies, reliability engineering principles, and data analysis to significantly impact our hardware development process. You will be a recognized authority on design for reliability, with a focus on testing and validation, influencing design decisions, and driving quality improvements.
What You'll Do:
- Lead design for test initiatives: Take ownership of complex testing challenges and lead cross-functional efforts to improve hardware robustness. Develop and implement advanced testing strategies to identify and mitigate potential risks early in the design process
- Be a testing expert: Possess deep technical expertise in hardware testing methodologies, including stress testing, accelerated life testing, environmental testing, and user-focused testing. Research and champion new testing approaches and methodologies
- Drive design improvements: Collaborate closely with hardware engineers to provide expert guidance on design for testability and reliability. Conduct in-depth analysis of hardware performance, identify potential failure modes, and propose effective solutions to enhance product reliability
- Champion data-driven decisions: Work with operational analysis teams to analyze data from various sources, including hardware testing, field data, and customer feedback. Present compelling data-driven insights to influence design decisions and improve product reliability
- Mentor and guide: Share your expertise and mentor other engineers on hardware testing best practices. Contribute to the growth of the team's collective knowledge and skills in design for reliability and testability. Guide design engineers on relevant industry standards and best practices to ensure compliance and promote high-quality design
- Develop and execute comprehensive test plans: Design and conduct a wide range of hardware reliability tests to evaluate product performance under various conditions
- Analyze test results: Perform detailed analysis of test data, identify trends, and generate comprehensive reports to communicate findings and recommendations to design teams and stakeholders
- Develop test automation: Explore and implement test automation solutions to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of hardware testing processes
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field
- 15+ years of experience in hardware testing and reliability engineering, with a proven track record of delivering significant impact
- Deep understanding of testing methodologies, reliability engineering principles, and tools
- Extensive experience with hardware validation testing, data analysis, and statistical modeling
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, communication, and leadership skills
- Experience with reliability software tools
- Knowledge of industry standards related to hardware testing
