Surgical Nurse Needed

Our hospital is seeking a skilled Surgical Nurse to join our Operating Room Department. The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's Degree in Nursing and be a Nationally Accredited Nursing Graduate. They must also hold a CPR for Healthcare/BLS certification and be licensed as an RN in New Mexico or as allowed by reciprocal agreement.

The Surgical Nurse will be responsible for delivering safe direct care to an assigned group of patients, administering medication, and assisting with special tests and procedures. They will also need to maintain a safe, comfortable, and therapeutic environment for patients/families in accordance with Hospitals standards and be proactive about seeking opportunities to improve patient safety.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver safe direct care to an assigned group of patients as required
  • Work in collaboration with the healthcare team, implement and document individualized care plans incorporating age specific considerations, including discharge planning and patient/family teaching
  • Assist with special tests and procedures, ensure proper consent has been obtained
  • Administer medication, including IV medication, via the Seven Rights; document and communicate clinical findings
  • Maintain a safe, comfortable, and therapeutic environment for patients/families in accordance with Hospitals standards
  • Enhance professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, reading current literature, attending in-services, meetings and workshops
  • Encourage patients to actively participate in their own care by asking questions and reporting treatment or situations that they don't understand or may 'not seem right'

Qualifications:

  • Program Graduate
  • Nationally Accredited Nursing Graduate
  • CPR for Healthcare/BLS certification
  • RN license in New Mexico or as allowed by reciprocal agreement
  • Nationally Certified in area of specialty preferred
  • PALS and/or TNCC and/or ENPC preferred

Physical Requirements:

  • Heavy Work: Exerting 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or 10 to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects or people.
  • Working conditions: Sig Hazard - Chemicals, Bio Hazardous Materials may require PPE
